Hey, i have a 1.2 1999 60 and i have just noticed when idleing there is like a high pitched squeeling sound comeing from the engine bay that sounds strange, the car runs tip top, no problems

Could this be something wrong with the altenator or maybe a greecy aux belt, all the elctrics run fine but the elec windows roll up abit slow.

I have a multimeter, what should the volt range on the charging batter be about ?

Sounds like slipping alternator belt, does the noise go away/quieten when the engine warms up?

voltage should be around 13.5v

mine does it, itll be cambelt or aux belt tensioner me thinks.

If it is really really loud, you might wanna check your gearbox oil...my old sx was only on about 25k and it needed changing

it wont be a squeal if its the gearbox, more of a whirr.

and you can rule the box out by pushing the clutch, if the noise continues its not the box.

My money is on the cam belt tensioner. It will be full of road dirt and the bearings will be worn. When did you last change it??

Voltages seem fine, i have no idea when the belt was changed, i know that the head gasket was chnged a few years back and the cambelt cover is broken so i imagion it was changed around that time, are they easy to fit, is there anyway i could get the serial number from the belt to see when it was made, or is there a solution i could spray on the aux and alt belts to rule them out?

Also is the cambelt cover nessisary, and where could i buy a new one from?
