Just fitted a new gearknob to my 97 60SX and under the gaiter I found this (pic attached)

Dont think it is supposed to be under there, but wondered what it is.

Anyone know what it is for?

(Sorry for the low quality pic)

The handbrake lever has a switch under it to sense that the handbrake is on/off it may have fallen off and run down the console to the gear lever.
Is the handbrake light on or off all the time ?

that is definitely a door light switch and the screw used to secure it to the door frame have a look at your doors you'll see one

the ring to the left is the plastic ring that secures the top of the gear gaiter to the gear lever
