Hello,
back in january i managed to kill my punto mia but after a new head and a new heater matrix which set me back over 500 quid at my garage im still having problems! The engine manage, ent light comes on at high revs (not highest around 5-6000 im guessing) or when im doing anything over 75mph (im guessing high revs again) the lights stays on and flashes constantly during this time and only goes off about 5mins after the revs are dropped, its driving me mad if anyone can give us some suggestions they will be much appreciated.

New things:
Head
water pump
heator matrix
Spark plugs
HT leads

Also while im here, when i have passengers in the back the engine sounds VERY loud even at low revs, and when i go around corners, over speed bumps or just pull off theres a metal on metal grinding noise, its very loud and doesnt sound too healthy :(

Anyone got any suggestions of what i can do about this? Is it worth taking it to a fiat dealer and having the fault codes read?

ok how much does this usually cost because im a new driver i havent really got a clue bowt these kinds of things cheers

hours diagnostic will set you back between £40 -60 but shop around. Fiat garage near me does diagnostic for £40 on older cars and currently having VAT free month so it pays to ask/look about(y)

Ok thanks but i havent got much of a choice :( I live in eastwood in nottingham and the fiat dealer locators showing Evans Halshaw (13 miles) as the closest followed by sunwin derby (at 14 miles) i dont fancy travelling further than that. But ill take it to one of those and see how it goes, thanks for the help!

Slight misfire which your engine management is just picking up but only at high revs and -most of all- a head that's just been worked on might mean your cambelt timing is slightly out. When you bring the revs back down again it gradually gets happier with the ignition until it turns the warning light off

A lot of engine noise but only when you have passengers in the back sounds like your exhaust is just touching the bodywork with the back end lower down. Worth taking to an exhaust centre with a few rear passengers on board perhaps

I did take the car to a local garage a few months ago they did find 2 ignition faults which they rectified and an unknown fault what they couldnt read, they never gave me a print out so i dont know for sure, it was my mum who took the car in so i dont know too much about what he said.

As for the cambelt timing i already checked that and its spot on.

Just got back from the dealer, Ive had the fault codes read and there are 2 - 'P0300 Ignition failures Intermittant' and 'P0300 Ignition failures Intermittant danger of catalyser over heating'

The guy also had a check around the car and found 2 oil leaks, one coming from somewhere in the engine and one coming from the gearbox/driveshaft. He also pointed out the engine has a loud nasty rattle

I dont really know what to do with the car at the moment because this all sounds expensive to me, ive already spent 500 quid on a new head and heater matrix so im considering getting rid.

is it a 1.1 8 v or a 1.2 16v, if you are considering getting rid then get a 1.2 16v, much btter and not much difference insurance wise either.

my head wnet the day i got my car (unlucky or what) i did the work myself an paid the garage £160 for parts skimming and crack testing. its beenfine ever since, just flew through the MOT needing only the tracfk rod ends.

i would sujest sunwin in derby, they havent let me down yet.diagnostics right first time.:slayer:

Well thats where i went to (y) they where great i cant say they are the best because this was my first car and them being the only dealer Ive used.

But anyway I'd like to thank everyone for the help but, ive sold the punto. Well part exchanged it anyway and got a rover 25 instead (yes im risking the grandad jokes) the car has really put me off punto's so i can safely say i wont be getting another in a hurry. I would still buy a fiat though because my mum used to have a panda 1000 fire K reg and that ran fine even if it was a shed :p.
