The red airbag light is always illuminated once the ignition is on. There does not appear to be much that can be diagnosed at home. Nothing has been altered on the car that would lead to the light illuminating. Going to FIAT is going to be expensive!
Has this happened to anybody else?
What was wrong and how did you sort it out?
Any thoughts please?

That happened to my car too not long ago, there wasn't actually a problem with my airbag, i had too many CD's in the glove compartment and this was hanging onto one of the wires or something which triggered the airbag light to come on! All that they did was check the wiring and took some of the CD's pressuring the compartment and the airbag light turned off!

Get it fixed when you can because if you were to have a bump non of your airbags will work while the light is on.

funnilly enough (ok not funny) this has happened to me.. but before i got mine...
yesterday i was expecting the delivery of my 08reg fiat grande punto and later on in the day i heard that it wasnt going to be delivered then i found out that there was a warning light on for the airbags and they cant release it (RAWR!!) and they cant work out why (as far as i know..)
sucks

best posting this in Grande punto section as it uses a different system to the older 188 range puntos.

Was on on my daughters punto & as said found to be the plug had been caught in the glove box (just open the glovebox & look up) you don't need to go to fiat just a garage with a good code reader did mine with a carman lite unit

I've got this problem too. You say there is a plug in the dashboard. Is this something I could fix myself?

I'll have a look in the daylight tomorrow and see what I can see. I spoke to the mechanic and he says that he can put a reader on it. Not being mechanically minded I have no idea what the reader will do. I guess it identifies the cause of the problem?

Is it true that none of the airbags will work while this light is on? That's worrying...

To my knowledge there is just two airbags, driver and passenger. If the mechanic uses a reader then will this identify the cause of the fault?

Thanks a lot for your help. I think I need to get this sorted sooner rather than later.
