Hi, Have a problem with a 2001 Punto 16v. The management light has been staying on. Had codes read which suggested "Lambda" sensor's or cat.converter. Have changed Lambdas, reset codes, but the light is back on. Have looked at base of cat. converter (inside) and there is no flakey material, does this mean that the cat. converter is O.K? or am i trying very hard not to spend money on a new cat. Further to the management light staying on, occasionally other warning lights stay on when the ignition is turned off. The only way to clear this is to switch the ignition on and off a few times. Each time i switch off, i get a different combination of warning lights staying on, until eventually they all go off! Any advice appreciated.

This can also be caused by a bad connection on the earth strap from the gearbox to the body. HTH.

Not sure about the EML but have seen problems with other warning lights staying on after ignition off. I believe it is poor connections in the multiway plug/socket at the rear of the instrument cluster.
Good luck!

HI, Thanks for all the advice. I did disconnect the battery for an hour, seems to have cured the warning lights staying on after ignition turned off problem. Can i ask OLDSCHOOL re his advice, does he think that the Engine Management Light being on and the code telling me its Lambda or Cat. is wrong? I am trying to avoid replaceing the cat. as its a "Maneverter" and expensive.

Question 2. I have seen code readers on e-bay for £60 ish, are these any good, and where is the code reader socket on a 2001 16v Punto ELX?

Thanks for the advice.

Great forum.
