Brilliant, only had the Punto a month (2001 on a Y plate, mk 2, 5 door, 1.2) and already its on the back of a car loader! In fact I've not even had a chance to update my sig (still got the Stilo, Punto is really the girlfriends) Not the cars fault but mine. Somehow managed to bend the key in the boot lock, and when i went to straighten it, snap, the tip came off it, spare key 180 miles away so just spent nearly six hours getting home! what a way to spend a sat evening/morning! :bang:
managed to get the tip of the key out the lock, and thought about trying to bodge it/ glue it to get us mobile, but called green flag instead!
Time to start trawling the forum to see what the script is with getting a new key. Its just a normal key, no remote on it, its got a number (2) on it with a small triangle set into two concentric circles, as best as i can describe at this time in the morning!
Joy oh joy!
p.s. thanks for the sticky littlepip17, very handy. will let you know what it ends up costing me.

have you got the original red key?

no it's mk2 code 2

there is no red key on his car

read the stickies brooksy

sorry to hear your misfortune gearfinger i wouldn't blame yourself to much i bet your keys have a relly deep cut near the base meaning they will snap very easy i have often walked away from my car before pulling the key fully out and managed to get away with it as mine had a lot of bulk near the base

as long as you keep the end of old key on keyring you can just get a not coded one cut fronm the 2 halfs and it should work fine. most good key cutters can cut a new key from 2 broken halfs

Yes, i never thought of that. I could have a 'normal' key cut and keep the proximity part from the old key on the keyring. Cheers Dave.
Phoned a few dealers this morning but all the parts departments are closed it seems on Sundays, which is fair enough, im not at work either!

littlepip17 >> Yes, where the key has snapped, its at a point where the key cut is quite deep into the shaft on both sides if you like.

I think i've just got too used to the remote unlock key with my stilo! If we are going to keep the punto for long i might have to invest in some aftermarket mods for it from RightClick

[Arnold Clark - Elgin Parts Dept]
"Oki Doki, Are you sitting down?", the Parts Salesman tells me on the phone!
£117.40 for the key (non remote)
£45 for the recoding (both keys apparantly)
+ VAT
=£190.82
bugger bugger bugger

A mate of mine (worked for Hyundai), told me the manufacturer gives the dealer a RRP, but the dealer can charge whatever they like for parts
