Hi all
I am a newbie to your forum and I have a slight problem. I changed my radio cassette over to a JVC Model KD G331 single cd player which you can take the face plate off. But have noticed that the battery has gone flat over the past month. This is all the mods i have done on my 2001 punto 1.2.
Jumped started the car took the cd player out and the next day the car started 1st time no problems put the cd player back in and within a few hours the car was having difficulties starting again. Take the cd player out few hours later the car starts. I am wondering if it is the cd player causing the problem. When you connect the connector into the back of the cd player there is a whirring noise for a second or 2 and this stops. I never leave the face plate on as there is a red light which goes into standby mode and i wondering if the unit is still live even with the face plate off.
With my blaupunkt (low) radio cassette if you left the radio on it would turn itself off after 20 minutes. I am thinking of getting a fiat blaupunkt cd player.
Any suggestion would be appriciated, sorry for the long chapter lol :)

ELDON .... HELP HELP HELP

sounds to me like you getting a drain off stereo ....

are you using just the to stereo plugs or does your model have the navigation plug

3rd plug ... if so do not use this ......

I SUSPECT THE RADIO AT FAULT ..... SO TRY USING A MATES .... OR SOME OTHER

ANY OTHER SHOULD WORK FINE ....

and just use the iso plugs power and second plug speakers ....

i only ever find the stereos at fault ......... yours puntosales .......

good look .....................

Thanks for your reply. I only have 2 connector blocks one has 4 pins and the other has 5 pins. The connector i got with the cd player has 2 blocks leading into 1 which goes into the back of the cd player. The 2 connectors are 8 pins and 5 pins would this make a difference or maybe as you say take the cd player back. No one round here has a cd player i could try.

also get a battery stab check at your local car shop ... but try leaving stereo out for two days .... if ok no need .....

and i thik keep windows up if you going to sing

Is there a way to make the cd player to turn on with the ignition and turn it off when i turn the ignition off. I have found out that there is power from the leads when the cars ignition is off and think this could be causing the problem. One of my mates used a meter on the lead that goes into the back of the cd player and it is reading 12 volts, with the ignition off.
Thanks in advance.

According to another post... you have to swap the red wire with a light green/blue wire. Probably best to find the wire that has voltage once the ignition is on then just swap it with the red. Im gonna try this myself tomorrow

Thanks Gareth, i will have to do this on the weekend. I have just checked the wiring and i have the following.

Thin wires

white/green
blue/green
yellow/green
grey

Thick wires

red/black
red/white
black

Please let me know how you got on, doing yours. Thanks again.

Kind Regards

Ive just noticed something.... although the head unit is now on the ignition, it resets itself everytime i turn it off and on so there no power at all once the ignition is off. Does the thin blue/green cable maybe have to be swapped with the thick red/white instead of red/black?

I will be doing this at my brothers tomorrrow, (Saturday) He will know. I think one of the wires is for memory, as soon as we or should i say he does figures it out i will post back here. I will tell him about this and he can try the thick red/white first instead of the red/black :)

Gareth we swapped the blue/green wire with the thick red/white and the cd did not keep the memory but the cd player worked only on the ignition. Just sat there for half an hour thinking what to do. On the cd plugs there was a red and yellow wire that had connectors in the middle so we swapped those over so part of the red wire connected into the yellow and vice versa and now the cd player only starts with ignition and the unit keeps its memory. Very strange but that has worked. Hope this makes sense to you.

Hmm thats how it was on my old Fiesta, it seems to be different on the Punto wires. I have a JVC head unit too so im sure i probably have the same wires. Ill have another look a bit later. Thanks a lot mate :D

Ah i havent got a clue with mine! Ive ended upputting it back how it was so its constantly on, but ive put my amp on the ignition so atleast that wont be draining the battery too!

What came with your head unit. Did a iso connector with wires come with the unit. On my one the yellow one which says battery i swapped with i think the red one which was accessory. I can't find the english version diagram but on the foreign one there is a picture were you can swap the wires as we did.
We also checked in the connector from the car that the pins was actually being used and that a pin was not going into a blank space. If you any picture or let us know what colour wires you have from the head unit and connector of you car, we will see if we can suggest something. If you want to pm me then please do so.

he head unit was in the car when i bought it. im gonna have a look in halfords for a set of blocks with the yellow and red wires on like you have
