Hi

My wonderful Fiat punto has sent me somewhere close to insanity.
last week it had a new head gasket and the cylinder head skimmed.
There is air in the system and me and my dad (and a garage) have tried all sorts to get it out with no luck (I've now lost the bleed valve screw thing too!)
the power steering is OK but very occaisionally locks up when pulling out of a parking space. it has never done it when I've been driving though!

Basically, the air in the system is the biggest problem and I've tried everything. It doesn't look like it's going anywhere so i can't drive the car at all now or the head gasket is going to get wrecked...again!
The car is a V reg 2000 1.2 and i only has 41000 miles on the clock.
Apart from this air thing, the car is fine! It seems such a shame to get it towed off to a scrap yard but I don't know know if there are any other options to at least get a bit of something for it.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Sarah

new gasket put on the wrong way?

ive read on hear before it can happen, but cant remember the effect...

Hi

It was the rear one.
My dad put the hose pipe in to the filler and tried to blast (but not too hard!) air through the system whilst sytematically working round the bleed screws to release any air. It didn't work so he tried again...and again...and again! On the last attempt the bleed screw shot out of his hand and we lost it!

The garage that I took the car too is one I have been going too for 7 years and they've never messed up before. The head gasket was replaced and the cylinder head was skimmed. The air could be heard before the head gasket was done too and it hasn't got any worse since - just hasn't got any better either!

They still seem to think it needs a new heater matrix but I don't think so.

My dad has put water through that too and it seems fine.
It heats up when the engine is running so water is going through. Plus there is still the fact that the heater is blowing out very hot air - not intermittent hot and cold as everyone else with heater matrix problems suffer.

When we squeeze the pipe from the cylinder head to the radiator you can hear the air in it.

We have tried everything including the guide on here and we just can't shift it.

I am at my wits end with it to be honest!

Thanks
Sarah

so it was the air lock that caused the gasket to go?

try remove all your hoses and blast the hose throught them, wont do any harm :)

did they pressure test the head?
both bleed screws should be open at same time, replace back one when no more coolant is coming out of that, then let coolant go down and out of the one in rad till no more comes out of that, don't forget to keep squeezing all coolant pipes when filling the system.
the back bleed screw is same on all puntos so should be easy to find one if not let me know i think i have one some where

Hi

Not sure.

I heard the bubbling air sound and the garage suspected the head gasket. They stripped it down and said that it was that and the cylinder head needed skimming. They did that and the noise is still there.

Have tried disconnecting all the hoses etc and nothing is working.

You will see me on the 10 o'clock news soon.... mad woman with insane look on her face dragged away from bubbling fiat punto in Sheffield! :bang:

HI
My dad's first idea was the thermostat so we changed that on Friday!
We have literally been outside for about 3 hours a night for the last 4 nights trying to sort this...I'm going crazy!!

im out i dunno:cry:

when ever ive had airlocks, i just unscrew the bleed valves bout halfway run the engine and work all the pipes...

Hi Dave

they said they pressure tested the head.

Yeh, we did the both screws at the same time thing and squeezed all the pipes. It just seems we are going round in circles. It's so frustrating! it seems so simple..air in system, get air out!! if only

I'll call a few places tomorrow about the bleed valve thingy - if I don't have any luck I'll get in touch!

Oh well, looks like I'm on the bus again tomorrow :yuck:

Thanks
Sarah
