Hi,

My 1.9 JTD ELX didn't come with front foglights (and hence misses the button on the mid-console).

I would like to add these headlights with foglights. I saw that there is a connector on the loom next to the headlights. Is this the foglight connector?

And which Headlights should I fit? It seems there are a lot of options, including H7, H1 and H3 bulbs?

And is the mid-console prepared for the foglight button, or do I need to alter the existing loom to fit the extra button I intend to get at a scrapyard?

Thanks in advance!

Wessel Colsen

p.s. sorry for the crappy english, I'm dutch and as such not a native english speaker

edit: it's a okt 2000 Mk2 1.9 JTD ELX

I've been thinking the same thing myself. I don't think there would be a problem to remove the plastic plug where the swich goes and replace it with the switch, but I am curious about the wiring already being present. Also, there would be an icon on the instrument panel that would have to light up when the front fog lights are on (similar to the one for the rear fog light) and I wonder if this is also pre-wired and if it happens to have a bulb already in place. If not, there will be some extra work involved.

Dag, buurman!

Ik woon in Belgie, 35 km van Brussel in het franstalige gedeeltje. Ik spreek engles, een beetje van vlaams/nederlands en een beetje meer van frans.

Tot ziens!

how funny, I have an okt 2000 ELX 1.9 JTD with exactly 197dkm as well! Chiptuned at 194dkm ;-)

And the question regarding the bulb seems a valid one. I see the icon on the dash, and if I remember correctly the bulbs work in groups so I think it should be in place or others would not work as well (at least in alfa romeo's it's installed like that).

you would need h/light units with the fog light built in and the switch panel with fog switch (all available from ebay/breakers)
the dash icon will already have the bulb installed
the wireing is probably already installed
the switch panel is plug and play, no wireing needed
although i haven't done this as mine came with fog lights

being the elx the wiring on the car will all be there and the body computer will allow them to be used

you just need the switch and the lights

as said

the bulb warning on the car does not measure the head lights it relys on you seeing when they have gone so using diferent bulbs will not affect this atall and wont be a problem so you can get any sort of mk2 ights as we all know there are a few

well i say a few just h1 and h7 i think

the centre switch is simply on a multi plug and the extra wires on that plg with the new swich will come into play were as before they weren't used

The 197000 KM was when I bought the car in February. Now it is about 203000. I do about 4000 KM each month and sometimes 5000. I got this car to keep me going until the Alfa 149 arrives next year.
