Punto 1.2 8v 2001 - EOBD flashing away whilst driving - I hooked it up to diagnostic equipment which gave me fault codes P0355 (engine speed sensor circuit) & P1300 (phonic wheel learn; to be executed). Any idea on the latter folks? It has me stumped! Any help appreciated.

hi there i done a search on inter net and foundthis bit of text relating to fiat barchetta, hope its of sum use to you

The last time I drove my barchetta, I described how the ABS light came on after a few minutes cruising on the motorway, following the replacement of a rear wheel bearing. When I had the car connected to the diagnostic computer, it retrieved a message to say that the ABS system had detected a PHONIC WHEEL with the wrong number of teeth. The PHONIC WHEEL is a toothed ring on the inside of the bearing, which the ABS sensor uses to measure wheel speed

2001 Punto sporting in sprint blue with matching Mr Bump air freshner all together now mmmmmmm

I though the phonic wheel set up was when you replace the ECU,it's a learning thing for the ECU.Try warming the car(cooling fan on)& quickly rev it up to 6000rpm for a second then let it return to idle.Do this 2 more times then switch it off, start it up again & the process should be done.Worth a try?

I too did a search and found the same thing, I still find I'm scratching my head though as the car does not have ABS! I'll give Fiat a ring in the morning and see if they can shed any light on the subject. Thanks for your effort :)

Worth a try yes, I'll give it a go in the morning, thanks for your input :)

hi, i got a fiat idea, 06 plate changed the o/s/f wheel speed sensor and the bearing , and then the abs light come on. checked it out , fault code came up with phonic wheel!!

what can i do help me some one plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

im sure ive read on a thread before to do a phonic wheel learn you reset the ecu then rev it up to 6000rpm a few times...............

but remember i do tend to talk crap:D

Read the sticky.

Don't know if you can do phonic re-learn on used ECU's though...i know you do it on new ECU's when replaced which is basically:

1. Idle till 1/2 way on temp gauge or when fan kicks in if you don't have one
2. Rev up to 5,000rpm hold for 3 seconds
3. Let it drop down to idle
4. Rev to 5,000rpm hold for 3 seconds
5. Drop to idle
6. Rev to 5,000rpm hold for 3 seconds
7. Drop to idle

Job done. But as i say, i'm pretty sure it can only be done on new ECU's.

hows that for service(y)

Technically true, although you don't need to hold the revs at 5/6k for 3 secs- it just has to reach that point and drop back to idle.

However, regarding the post about the Idea ABS- a phonic wheel is a general term to describe a magnetic ring which is picked-up by a sensor. In an ABS system there is a "phonic wheel" in each wheel bearing which the sensor reads to work out wheel speed. Doing the EFI ECU phonic wheel learn procedure will do nothing to the ABS.

you need to turn your wheel bearing round as the magnet that the sensor picks up is in one side of the bearing itself

you may need a new bearing as you'll damage it trying to remove it
