Seem to be loads of MK1's with similar problems, but none exactly the same as mine. Punt overheated a few weeks ago, coolant all over the place, didn't have time to sort it so took it to the local garage who replaced a damaged hose. Problem sorted. Went to move it the other day having got back from holiday, no hot air, strange but didn't think anything of it. Took it out again in the evening and the temp guage steadily climbed till touching the red, only stopped as I got home again! Plus there was no hot air. (n) Had a look under the hood and there was coolant all over the shop again but it seemed to be coming from the pressure release cap. Turned it over again and found out the fan wasn't working, tested the fan/ switch and it would seem that the fan switch is knackered. Now the real question, would the fan not coming on cause the hot air not to work? I don't know how the hot air is generated so haven't a clue about this, anyone else? I'll sort the switch out at the weekend, so can let you know if it sorts it but thought I'd ask and see if anyone had had the same problem....

Did a few more checks this evening and the thermostat seems to open at around 3/4 on the temp guage. What is strange is that only some of the hoses coming from what I think is the thermostat get warm.

The punt is a 1.6 so not everything is the same as the Haynes says it is.

The upper hose to the heater matrix gets hot but not the return hose, equally the hose entering the radiator at the top gets hot but not the hose at the bottom of the rad. I don't know which way round the water flows, but could this be a blockage in both the matrix and rad, or does it sound more like an air lock? Any ideas? ... plus I could only find one bleed valve on the hose to the matrix is there another one anywhere?

Ha ha a thread all to myself. Problem sorted (for now at least), think there must have been an airlock from when the hose was fitted, bled down and refilled hot air and no overheat, thanks dave and ur bleeding tutorial :worship:
