hey guys,

quick question... my neon lights are connected to the back of my cig lighter and they work but my cig lighter wont however the light round the cig comes on! i think its the fuse... does anyone no which fusebox it is and which one... thanks (y)

Remus

sounds more like the bulb being blown, if the fuse is gone the neon probs wont work.. check both.

Bulb???

the neons connect to the back of the cig lighter so the wires will still be live so i think it is a fuse but not sure which fuse it is!

wat will i av to do if its the bulb?

thanks

the cig lighter has 3 connections, 1 permanent live feed for the socket itself, 1 earth and 1 live feed switched with the lights. this suggesys the permanent live has come detached or been removed to plug straight into the neons. also when you say neons, do you mean exterior ones running under the bumper etc or footwell lights. If they are large exyerior ones, they ought to be connected with a relay, otherwise you can kiss the electrics goodbye.(n)

YES. the bulb.

if the fuse is blown the wires wont be live, obviously the wires do work so its not a fuse.

BUT, if you are so sure that it is a fuse, how about checking them all????????

OR you can listen to me and take off your centre console, remove the cig light cover (looks like a sliced mushroom) and underneath there there is a small bulb that lights the orange surround.

do not mention the damn fuse again.

go and change the bulb.

although if running extra items from the cig lighter you may want to upgrade the fuse from a 20 to a 25 or 30. Im gonna when i connect up mine, for somereason though the cig lighter wires are atteched to the same fuse as the stereo so the stereo will die too if the cig lighter shorts or anthing else! :S

I wouldn't..... the fuse of that rating is there for a reason (i.e wiring won't take more than that). If this were to happen the wiring would overheat set fire to your car before the fuse overloads. If you need to upgrade the fuse to take the extra Amperage you should make sure the wiring is suitable.

As to remus check wiring round back of cig lighter it is NOT the fuse if your neons work.

Failing that buy a gas lighter and / or stop smoking in your car :yuck:

stereo is not connected to cig lighter system at all.

also, dont go upping the ampage of the fuse unless you like car fires.

lol i need it for my st nav lol

ill check the cabling maybe take the neons out and check if the lighter works
