hey guys,

ok i av a few things i wana ask you:

1. if i was to take the engine apart and clean it properly... would it do anything? (i.e make it run smoother or faster)

2. if i wanted to change my enigne to a 16v is there an easy way... i mean can i just change a few things over or do i need to change the whole thing?

3. i have been told you can do little things to make it faster such as:

cleaning it all up
tightening the throttle cable
putting new racing sparke plugs
and putting the £20 nitrous oxide can in the fuel (i cant memba the name lol :p)
and there were a few more things...

could you tell me if this is true and could you tell me what other little things i could do... thanks o and how much extra bhp will it give me( and cost lol)

p.s no gsr kits or electric turbo or new car or anything along those lines please.

all your help is really appreciated

thanks guys/girls lol

Remus

going on a whim here not having much knowledge,
but im guessing the car would've lost a bit of bhp over the years, so with a clean etc you might be restoring lost bhp and make it a little nippier (y)

hey trist thanks for that i just wanted to double check before taking it apart

hey guys,

ok i av a few things i wana ask you:

1. if i was to take the engine apart and clean it properly... would it do anything? (i.e make it run smoother or faster) take what apart exactly? with the questions youve asked you have little hope fo stripping and rebuilding an engine.

2. if i wanted to change my enigne to a 16v is there an easy way... i mean can i just change a few things over or do i need to change the whole thing? need to swap the whole engine and loom/ecu etc, again, i doubt youd manage this

3. i have been told you can do little things to make it faster such as:

cleaning it all up not really
tightening the throttle cable wont make it any faster whatsoever
putting new racing sparke plugs racing plugs in a 1.2 8v pmsl
and putting the £20 nitrous oxide can in the fuel (i cant memba the name lol :p)again, on a 1.2 8v this will have no effect, these product are an octane booster which your engine wont make any use of
and there were a few more things...i wonder if these other things are even remotely sensible?

could you tell me if this is true and could you tell me what other little things i could do... thanks o and how much extra bhp will it give me( and cost lol)

p.s no gsr kits or electric turbo or new car or anything along those lines please. why??these are the only real hope you have of increasing your power.

all your help is really appreciated

thanks guys/girls lol

my replies in red

if you have a mate that has a crap car, drive that for a bit, then drive your punto, it'll feel like a rocket,

i drove my mates peugeot round the car park at college, no power steering, crap brakes, slow, had a stitch after driving turning a few corners it was so hard

got into my punto to go home, and almost ran someone over and it felt so much faster and a million times more responsive

Take your air filter off

Get a bag of sand

Poor it into the tb, with engine running

This will bore out the cylinders to give you a bigger cc, larger engine capacity = more power.

careful he might actully take your word for it!!
Is it a proven method may I ask?? lmao

while im here will a induction kit properly fitted wththe intake filtar at the front of the engine by thevents so its geting cold air make a difference to performance?? I will also b fitting an 866 cam and thoughtthat perhaps withthe greater lift on the pistoons perhaps the engine will want more air available?

ok ok thats it i av had enough...

im gona put my green cotton air filter down the bottom at the front... im gona decat it and im gona stick a turbo init as well... it might be the turbo from a fiat coupe not sure yet i will be taking all pics as soon as i start doing it.. might be in a few weeks cos im doing my interior for now.

hey remus, how is your interior coming on, ive just recently done my dash black with the air vents blue and it looks a heck of a lot better so id definately recommend that! im looking for some door cards to match the black now cos the trim on my current ones doesnt look good. are you gonna get sport seats?? Ive fitted some alfa GTV seats in mine and theyre alot comfier as well as holding me in the chair s you feel more confident taking corners faster. im getting a gt style centre console sometime soon too and gonna try and mount some speakers on it somewhere but im loking for an amp just now, got a sub and more speakers to put in so if you know anyone who's got an amp goin cheap let me know :D ta, you tried putting your stripes down the bumpers yet?

oh and get some M3 mirrors, they look well mean!!

are you trying to talk about blue printing? where you strip engine an put it back together more accurately that it was when mass produced, with all clearances an end floats etc spot on?

i duno lol... would that be good for my engine... would it make it a lil nippier and smoother... can i do it myself... how much would it cost me... and can i use other parts from a bigger engine to make it a lil quicker?

Thanks

hey jay,

u really have the same taste as me in your punto like mine lol (if that makes any sence) I am spraying it in black maybe tomorrow cos im off work then but not sure yet if anything ill do it this weekend. i am puting nice blue material over my door cards cos they are in gray at the mo and i want it all to be in blue and black. How did you put those seats in? did you just take them out of a car and fit them in yours? do you think i could go to a scrap yard, take some nice leather seats out and put them in mine?

thanks

p.s where abouts do you live?

Remus

o and ye i tried puting the strips on the bumper and its way to hard.. i am thinking of putting two strips on either side of the car from the bottom to the top and from the front wheel to just before my door handle so it is at an angle if you get me. wat you think?

Thanks

Remus

well alfa's are made by same company which is why i usedthe seats. I has to drill two holes on the runners to make it screw on properly, if you take your runners off, should be some allen bolts if you poush the seat allthe way bakc, or even easier measure the distance across them go to a breakers and fine some with the same distance across the runners. then you just have to measure up for holes in the runners to fit your sub frame, make sure you get a high tensile drill bit for it though the runner metal is very thinck, i killed two drill bits trying to do mine! deffo's dp the dash black!! looks mean! I just tinted my rear lights, theyre not dark enough though, need to be black to match the black punto they still look dark red in the daylight the amount of light coming through loks no different though so I think Im safe to go some darker yet!

Dont quite get how you mean with strips down the sides.... i rekon it loks better if its smooth sides, i wanna deock mine but will need to get central locking before I do that. was thinkin of mayb putting the handle on the mirror like TVR's have so i can have smooth sides all the way down the car but i dont think thats gonna happen! the stripes look best as two narrowish ones offset from the centre imo, and they gotta be white!

Need a split rear seat with black or dark gray fabric for mine at the moment if you know anyone breaking a mk1

Forget it, its not worth the time, expense or hassle for measly gains.

Just sell it and buy a bigger engined model with the trim level you want, then customise it if you wish.

ye im thinking of tinting my rear lights too.. not sure yet lol

ye see i might do that cos i want nice leather seats or something nicer than the **** gray ones that i av.. well i mean they are in excellent condition and they do look nice but they dont go with my blue and black lol.. i wounder how much i could sell them for.. how much did your seats cost you and where did you get them... can you attach some pics of your interior please (just attach them with the lil paper clip sign cos thats the only way i can see them on the computer at work lol)

Thanks jay

Remus. READ the reply's from this thread and the many others you have made and heed the advice. As I've said at least TWICE before the turbo from a COUPE is to F**KING BIG for a 1.2 8v!!!.

IF it doesn't blow you engine to pieces with too much boost it will take for ever to spool up and it will be time to change gear by that time. You also make it out to be a bolt on Job?? WRONG, you will need to upgrade nearly everything on your car (custom made turbo manifold £400, fuel pump £100, injectors £200, ECU to handle positive boost <>£1000, lower comp pistons £400, upgraded con-rods £200, copper head gasket would help £100, Intercooler & Pipework £150, new exhaust with sports cat £500, bigger brakes £400, upgraded suspension £500). This is NOT including labour £1000 at least, which you will no doubt need as this is not something most people can do including myself. After all this you will end up with 140hp ish and a car that is pretty reliable.

Any of this sinking in yet?!. Stop being an arse listen to people who know what they are talking about instead of your max flower mate / hear say you have made up or found on max power style sites. Best thing you can do is as you say get some proper silicone pipe work and relocate the Green air filter somewhere a lot cooler. Also as mentioned a 866 CAM will also make a nice difference to power delievery and torque.

De-Cat WILL NOT make it faster either just make it more undrivable around town as it will make the power come in higher in the rev range. Get a proper exhaust from front to back and you may get another 3hp and leave the drivability good.

Sorry if it sounds like im having a dig at you but im getting a little annoyed at you asking these questions, having them answered and then asking them again a week later.

well tbh i dont wana sell the car cos i like the exterior... i dont want to buy a bigger engine and i will change my interior... just wait till i finish it and i will take pics for all of u to see then you can let me no wat you think.

i might av a small engine but i will defo av a nice car ... well my personal opinion lol and i will make the car faster even if i av to strip the enigne

ok chris well said.. and yes im an an idiot for asking all these questions but when i make research and speak to ppl they are all like o you just need to do this and that so it seems simple

wat would happen if i connected the intercooler and the turbo to the correct places? would that not help at all?

Thanks

It would do nothing, as you would need a custom exhaust manifold to attach the turbo to so it could work. Even if you had the manifold chances are it would blow up within a week as none of the standard engine components are designed for a turbo, I mean look at all the problems the Cinq owners still have after spending hundreds, sometimes thousands on uprating bits on their engines...

I suggest you go to www.howstuffworks.com and read the following articles:

How Engines Work
How Turbochargers Work
How Superchargers Work
How Horsepower Works
What is the difference between a turbocharger and a supercharger on my car's engine?

So you have a very basic understanding of how engines actually work and why you can't just "stick a turbo" on it
