I have a punto mk1 1.2 and have found my fual economy has gone right down, I have spoken to a few people and they seem to think its my lambda sensor.
I cant see anything physically wrong with the car, just that my fuel economy is down to below 30mpg and thats when driving carefully.
Only performance mod I have on car is a K&N induction kit.
Any advice?
Thanks

Take a look through the Threads in the link here https://www.fiatforum.com/search.php?searchid=2201353

Just filled up my punto and used the mpg calculator i found on one of the threads, comes out at 27.9mpg, now that cant be right for a 1.2 punto 60s?
Any advice? Would people agree it could be the lamda sensor or am i looking at something more costly?
Thanks

I just recently replaced my other halves lambda sensor in her corsa 1.0 3 cylinder (which is usually really economic) after it started using more than my punto 1.2 75, which gets abused to be honest.
Replaced it and its gone back to its normal self, the sensor was caked in carbon deposits, obviously a sign it was running extremely rich

Anyone know what type of lambda sensor i need for my punto mk1 60s?
how many wires?
Thanks

Hi all, no one know how many wires the lambda sensor or a mk1 punto 60s has? Or would i need to jack it up to find out?
Thanks

I know on my 75 its in plain view when you open the bonnet up, just look down at the manifold.

Not sure if the 60 is any different, think its a 4 wire though.

I've got this same problem, the fuel consumption stays at around 28mpg on my 1.2 '02 Punto. I've only been driving a few weeks and it's been like this the whole time. It was a little higher (around 33mpg) when I was driving with my dad before passing, but I assume that's just because of driving more carefully. I didn't even think about it as being too bad but I spoke to some friends whose cars were all doing around 40-50mpg.

So does anyone know what the problem could be? What does a lambda sensor do and how does that affect the fuel consumption? I just googled it but that left me more confused than I was before. Whatever it is, is it easily replaceable and/or cheap to buy? I can't do this stuff myself but my dad might be able to do it if it's not too hard.

Yeah so any help would be appreciated, thanks.

lambda sensor detects the oxgyen coming out of the engine exhaust manifold and allows the ECU to keep a watch on how much air is not being burnt thus allowing the fuel:air mix to be adapted, thus allowing a more efficient burn if under fueling or reducing the fuel input if running rich. Shouldn't be too difficult to replace.

Price wise, new may be expensive, worth checking shop4parts or getting a scrap yard spare!
