i posted before bout my crankcase compresion but i couldnt find it, anywayz

i disconnected the crankcase breather hose from my air box cause it was pushing oil into my throttle body,
i was thinking of puting it into an oil catch tank (with breather :p)but i dont know where to put the return, unless i want to empty it and continue filling my oil every week :(

on my engine theres a blocked off bit next to the oil fillercap would i be able to use this for a return
it doesnt show it on this pic but its there :)

The blocked off bit you refer to and where you point seems as though its there for the top camshaft sensor which was on the later 1242 engines, rather than putting a catch tank in can you not address the issue as to why your crankcase compression is so high? or do you already know?

yeah i was told some possabilaties the last time i posted it although i never actually done anything bout it, so i dont now the cause but im guessing its gonna cost cash i dont have (any monies i get disapears on crap like food/clothes for the kids :p)

theres quite a cheep one here even though its for a bike :D
so im looking for a cheep quick fix untill i come up with cash for a new engine :(

i know its the wrong one to it dont have a breather:p, to be honest id be happy with a hose with a breather on it to replace the crank case hose but it would have to return to the engine so im not buying oil every month :D

i was told i can ram a screw driver down the crankcase to unblock it (if thats the problem) would that work or would i do damage

hi i fitted a catch tank to my vectra as i had a simmler problem thay do work but i actaualy filled mine with wire wool and reconected it to the air intakeso it is sort of an inline fillter and seems to work great as the return pipe is clean
also i dont think you will get as much oil as you think

thanx m8,so do you rekon it would do the same if i just ramed some steel wool down the existing breather tube

get an old coke bottle or similar and route breather into this, when bottle is full simply put the contents back into the engine. i wouldnt waste money on a proper catch tank.

nice idea, maybe not a coke bottle :p, i think i have an old shiny flask i could use :)

I think there's confusion what that vent tube does.

All it does is vent the crankcases .. so that air pressure does not build up inside the engine as the moving parts thrash up and down and as the temperature increases during use.

You can't vent that pipe to atmosphere, as that allows oil distillants to evaporate into the air. There's no good mecahnical reason - it's just for emissions/pollution.

You WILL get an oil mist out of that tube, so you need a catch tank of some sort.. Fiat uses the airbox, so that the mist is sucked into the combustion chamber and burnt.

You can use a Red Bull or Coca Cola can, strapped to something with cable ties. You would be advised to put a filter on the end of the pipe to prevent grit getting into the engine but if you have a long(ish) pipe, that won't be an issue. You can get mini gauze filters just for this purpose.

You also need to block the hole under the airbox, as this will allow the engine to suck air in, bypassing the air filter. Again... not THAT serious.. but block it anyway. Use the fingertip of a rubber glove or thick plastic and a cable tie... not tape as it will go gooey.

If your engine is pissing out so much oil that it fills the can, then seriously check your oil level. You should get a "mist" resulting in a dribble of oil. That's all.

thanx i feel kind of enlightened now :p

so theres supposed to be oil coming from it, it just seams excessive and there was defo lots in the throttle body,

although i checked my oil level yesterday/day before and was fine

Oil mist.. it condenses in the tube and turns into a dribble. That also collects condensation from the engine so the inside of the tube gets blocked with mayonnaise type gloop.

If you take the pipe off, at the airbox end there is a little metal filter.. sort of a coiled up wire. Pull it out with some pliers... rinse the filter and the whole insides of the tube in parafin or degreaser (or spray it with contact cleaner) and refit. Having a clear breather pipe will help the engine and any mist can escape more easily.

cheers again m8, it wasnt blocked though, its going to the gartage tommorow to get a few things checked out, i may have to get a compression test :)
