Hello,only joined yesterday hoping for a bit of advice!!! i am having problems with my car, at low revs in second and third year there is hardly no power until about 2000rpm. The car has only just started to do this, any ideas??

How long was it since your last service ?. Try one of them Petrol additives to decoke your engine and injection system I put some in every full tank of petrol i get.

I have been using redex in my car and haven't really noticed a difference. Still using it though for some reason!?

i really wouldnt expect an 8v punto too pull well at that sort of rev/gear combo

yeah but it is obvioulsy a fault as silentbob said it has just started doing it. does sound a strange problem though. and as chris said have you had it serviced recently incase sparkplugs and leads are worn

My 1242cc 8v ELX seems to pull fine down at 2k. Its never going to be fast, but if the traffic isn't accelerating away I tend to change up at 2k5. I think peak torque is at 4k or so, which means it's never going to be as accelerative at 2k as 4k. I think it's mostly down the car. If you're used to big cars who have loads of torque low down the rev range, then the Punto will feel lesser, because its smaller!

Actually, I find mine will still accelerate (very slow, but it does it) on the flat in 5th from 20mph. I use Shell (non Optimax) most of the time (in 47k miles driven by me, about 1k were non Shell).

Well heres the torque graph for the 1.2 8v Fire engine peaks bang on 5000rpm so rev the litte mofo [8D].



Bearing in mind thats without a exhaust manafold or a Air filter

Chris, the peak at 5k curve is the power in kW. The other one is torque in Nm, which actually peaks lower than I expected. Nice to see this kind of info...

About one month ago I received a letter from the FIAT dealer to bring in the car for ECU reprogramming.
Done 2 weeks ago free of charge. Unfortunately the letter from the dealer remained with them and I don't remember the recall number.
It seems it's a bug affecting only (some of the) 1.2 8V Punto's made in 2002.

After this the car drives the same, I didn't notice any change. But I'm quite happy how it pulls even at low revs, and also consumption is quite low.
