Ive got 2 strange noises coming from my car ( 95 MK 1 Punto). Don't know whether they are related. The two noises are:

One is a strange noise coming from underneath my car. It sounds as if i've knocked my exhaust off and it's rattling away. But the sound is coming more or less from the front of my car. The noise becomes quite loud when the car is idle. When changing gears especially in lower gears it sound more as if the car going to stole. Even though it never does it's just the sound of it. Oil and coolant is fine, but sometimes theres a noise when i apply my breaks.

The noise only occurs when i'm just about to stop and not when i'm breaking to slow down. This sounds more like a scraping sound.

Any suggestions welcome

Could it be your air filter?
Have you taken off the engine cover recently?

(This happened me last week when I was cleaning the spark leads - I didn't put the air filter and engine cover on correctly and the car was running about 20% down on power and sounded like the exhaust had a hole in it)

your downpipe flexi exhaust mounting has probly broken off.
