Hi can anyone help.
a few days ago my girlfriend hit a speed bump a little to hard and snapped the exhaust away from the manifold and catalyst, being quite far away from home she continued to drive it home even though very loud! This caused the hot exhaust gases to burn through the lambda sensor cable which in turn made the engine management light come on.
She has had exhaust replaced but engine light is still on?
I have had a look under the car and there looks like there is space for 2 lambda sensors one above the cat and one below. The one above the cat looks like its connected correctly but the one below the cat looks like the garage who fitted it has put the old one back in because there are loose burnt off cables coming out of it? do i need to get a new lambda sensor?

Also today her power steering light has come on, city button doesn't work and steering is a little heavier.
She has noticed ticking/crackling noise coming from the steering wheel, when she turns the wheel.

She has a w reg 1.2 16v punto

Any ideas?

Cheers in advance

the two arent connected at all, yeah they do have 2 lamda sensors
one above the cat and one below the cat, chances are thats whats causing the ecu light to remain on,

as for the city steering and powersteering, it sounds like the pump has gone does it knock when on full lock???

...it sounds like the pump has gone

:rolleyes::bang:

Electrically assisted power steering- no pump, no fluid.

You say the city button doesn't work, but does the 'city' light come on the dash when the button is pressed?

Common causes are voltage related (check the posts at the top of the Punto section for tips)- is the battery/alternator in good condition (starting ok every time)?

Otherwise your best bet is a full Fiat diagnostic on the PAS to read the error codes.

Regarding the Lambda's- two are fitted, the first monitors the emissions as they leave the combustion chambers and corrects it as necessary, the second monitors the efficiency of the catalytic converter to ensure it's working. If either are damaged, an error code will be logged. If there's wires hanging out of it, i'd get it changed.

yeah city light comes on but steering stays the same.
steering doesn't knock just a strange rattling noise coming from the steering wheel if it is turned, shaken or if it goes over rough surfaces.
as for the lambda sensor do i have to order a specific one or are the both the same? and where does it connect to?
also forgot to mention speedo stopped working when ecu light came on does this have anything to do with the lambda sensor?
