I have a 1999 1.2 16v Sporting which has starting problems.
First noticed that if you turn the key to the first position on the ignition and listen carefully something is being energised. I think it is the injectors or fuel pump...not sure which. The car will start ok. If I do not get this noise then the car will just turn over but not start. This happens intermittantly. This morning I've gone to start the car but it was completely dead...nothing ? Even the key won't open the central locking. I tried spares and 'red' key to no avail. Could it be the battery ? What would explain the intermittant energising of the injectors/fuel pump when it was running ?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

the sound you hear is the fuel pump, the first fault you discribe is an intermitent code/main relay operation type fault.
if nothings working now you need too look at your battery for a start, sounds like its dead flat.

Thanks guys, a trip to Halfords for a new battery and fitting last night has cured it :) ! I will still be listening out for that fuel pump though......it's become a habit !
