Hi all,

I really hope you can help. The car si a 2000 Punto 1.2 It had the engine changed & nothing else & now it will not start, it says it needs a code. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hi Custard, I cant get the mechanic till around lunch time today to find out, but as far as I know it did not even turn over and there was a message on the dash saying key code or maybe key code needed. The battery was flat before the engine change but as far as I know he had it off and charged it. I will get confirmation aroung lunchtime today hopefully and post it up here.

Thanks,

I suppose its a mk2, but in all cases you would need the original ecu from your old engine/car. Make sure the fuel cut-off has not tripped out during repair.

Hi,

Here is more info - yes it is a mark 2.....The engine turns over but it will not start. There is a symbol of a key lit up in the dash and also text that says 'code'.

Thanks for help so far :)

I dont think so but I wil confirm that tonight. The engine was bare that was fitted. It came from an online engine company who delivered it as well. Could it be anything to do with the key? They lost the 2nd key in the garage somewhere so I have asked them to try and find that and try it. Is there any way to reset the immobiliser etc?

Thanks,
PSniff

Hi, the ECU is the one from the original car as the replacement engine never came with one, the only thing it came with is the distributor. It turns out the replacement is the one with the cam sensor but the original did not, so the cam sensor on the replacement is not connected to anything, but as there is no connection for it i take it the car is not looking for it and it is not affecting anything?
