Hey, i had new gearbox for my active sport 8v "52 plate, fitted last summer as the diff went on the old one, since around september when you put it in reverse it makes a grinding noise. Also recently when you even pull away it makes a loud knocking noise when you change gear. It also makes knocking noise when you take you foot of the accelarator when decreasing speed.
Does anyone reckon this new gearbox is broken????? ps had new clutch fitted at same time if this makes a difference.
Thanks in advance

Yea my Car does this too. If when you put it into reverse you do it nice and slowley and gently it shouldnt do it. I know what you mean because it sounds like you havnt used your clutch doesnt it? My mate has a MK2 too and his does this if you put it into reverse to fast.

The knocking sound is the exaust I also had this problem. I cant remember exactly what it was but im thinking its the bracket holding the exahust in place is looose or something but i know I also had this problem and when I took it for a service they picked up what the actual problem was. So it might be worth just poping into your local garage and asking them to have a quick look.

knocking sound will most likely be inner cv. these knock when put under sudden load when they are starting to fail.
