just before christmas my car (2001 mk 2 1.2l 8v punto) broke down so nice mr AA had to come rescue me and tow me to a nearby garage which happened to be a ford one.
Turned out my cambelt had gone and had decided to take half my engine with it so another engine was found and fitted. When i came to pick it up today, the mechanic pointed out the warning light saying that they didnt know why it was on. They had run their diagnostic machine on it and no error codes were coming up.
It seems to be running fine but it is a bit of a worry. What would you guys reccomend? Im a bit wary of fiat dealerships as they have a tendancy to cost alot for not alot of work (from my experience).

did they use the old ecu or one on the new engine?

btw i think thay bulled you about engine damage as the 8v is a safe engine, no way valves can clash with pistons when belt brakes

i dont know. My knowledge on engines is fairly limited and they didnt say anything about it (prob thought it was above and beyond me). But after reading about the 8v being a safe engine does make me question what they told me

When the Engine lamp flashes it indicates either a serious ignition failure which may cause damage to the catalyst, or more likely (as in your case) that the ECU requires a 'phonic wheel learn' procedure to be performed.

I tried it and the lights gone off so fingers crossed (and praying to the punto gods! :worship: ) it stays off.
