General millage

hi guys been i while scince i have been on here..anyway.

i have really fu**ed my dash, as i have been trying to fit white dials yesterday. snapped the needels and glued the dials on wonkey now they wont come of..
so i went down to the scrappey and found a new dash from another mk1, but the millage is down to 68,654.. and i need it on tho 79,238...

just wondering is is safe enough to swap these's dash boards around and how do i wind the millage up as i know this can be done...

p.s. sorry forgot to ask this is legel tho, wont fail an MOT will i..?

If its a Mk1 with the mechanical odometer, then you can adjust it yourself. Its not illegal unless you lie about the mileage (ie clocking), and it wont fail an MOT. They should just pull apart slightly and then turn IIRC

whats a mechanical odometer?

i wont lie about the mileage, its just that i have bought a speedo dash from a ''n ''reg punto and my mate said it wont work on a ''r'' reg...

is it just a matter of adjusting the mileage forward and reconnecting it to the car....??

An odometer is basically the bit that counts your mileage. A mechanical one is one that manually moves a drum with numbers on it around to give you the mileage, as opposed to a digital one like fitted to the Mk2. If its the digital one then its a fiat job to change the mileage, but IIRC the Mk1 odometer is the mechanical type, and therefore you can simply move it around manually, and then reattach, and your away!

Is it the same cluster as your old one, or does it look different?

thanks should be easy to manually turn it till i get to my mileage..

yep looks exactly the same, (fuel,speedo,clock)... it is just of a diffrent reg punto....
