Hi, I have a 2001 (x) punto sporting 16v 1.2, and for the past few years have had the orange "engine" light permantly lit up on my dash, seems to be causing no problems, until today....It went in for a MOT and it failed, on the ommission test.

The garage says it will need a new lamba sensor as this is what is causing the fault light of the engine symbol on the dash board. Is this correct? has anyone come across this problem before?

Will putting on a new sensor cure the problem?

Thanks Jayne

Hi mate, AND WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!

A common cause of a modern car failing its MOT on emissions is the Lambda sensor. It adjusts the fuel air mixture in the engine, and if it is not working properly, then it can lead to the engine running to lean, (too much fuel) which will mean that the exhaust gasses will be increased, which in turn will cause you to fail your MOT.

I would suggest that fitting a new lambda sensor and re-setting the ECU then a spirited drive will solve your problem.

Hope that helps,
Alan
