Hia guys, im new to the forum, just thought i might find some sugestions if i signed up and posted a thread!

Im such an idiot, please don state the obvious!

I was driving in extreamly wet conditions and hit a large puddle at the side of the road at around 40mph, the puddle must have been around 2 1/2 feet?

I continued driving on and slowly my car started juddering, and would allow me to accelerate whilst driving. I finaly came to a stop and my car just completely stalled, i got it going again and managed to drive it home.
I had obviously flooded the engine, i let it dry of for a few days, and its fine, its driving fine like it use to!

But while i was sorting some things out in my car i could smell dampness in my car, and realised the floor was extreamly wet!!

Not just on the front side but each seperate part of the floor under the seats, i pushed down on the floor and i could see water squeezing out from it, if you know what i mean!

Have any of you got any surgestions? I would be so greatful!
Thank You!!!

Matt :)

Ive heard mk1 have a "easy to get water inside" common problem..is your mk1? Someone will confirm/decline this and maybe be more helpfull, but why dont you try the obvious, like taking the carpet off, or unscrewing the plastic that holds it first, and take a look...it could just be the water which has nowhere to go out, so suck it out or drill a hole

lifting the carpets ( not removal) is realy whats required its not that big a job
front and back seats (only a few bolts)
the door frame trim panels, the ones that sit just above the sills
fold back the carpets and put something under them that will keep them from being in contact with floor
pretty sure in the footwells there are holes that should have rubber seals that can be removed to allow drainage ,,they do perish and fall out with time ,maybe yours are out and thats why you have water inside of car

It got in somewhere in the bulkhead area I bet, bow wave and all that. Any grommets missing or extra wires passed through existing grommets would be suspicious to me. Yep, Oktopod has it right, remove carpets, dry them out, put a fan heater in your stripped out car and dry that out, look around for holes in the floor while its stripped and fix any you find.

Nah... take them out and clean them thoroughly or they will go musty and stink like hell, who knows what was in the water that got in, sewerage etc :yuck:

if you have the time and dont mind the effort thats def. the way to go ,,,but will also involve removal of centre consol( how much will depend on model)

Let us know what you found with this cos we had a similar problem with water getting in to the car and soaking the carpets and footwells, etc. We ended up having to remove the padding under the carpet as it had all rotted through. However, there is, what feels like a hole in the footwell now, have yet to lift the carpet to see if it is a proper rusty hole (!) or something along the lines of the rubber plug perishing as in a previous post?

Any guidance would help.

cant imagine one puddle soaking every compartment so quickly so i'm going with coincidental leak do you have aircon

there is only one common leak with mk2 really and that's various missed sealing around passengers side front but this would have shown up sooner like from new

the air con drains can block meaning a car full of water other than that you gotta wait for a wile after drying the car and see if rain makes it wet again and find were it's coming from

I was in my car messing around and i found about 3 1/2 inches of water where the spare tire was, so i soacked it all out and a week later the floor seems to be fine, still a little damp but nothing like it was at the start!

I couldnt believe how much water there was in the boot though?

Thanks again for all yr help!

is there a coroded hole under the tyre?

Or you know what, there are canals for water to go down the stop lights, to the centre of the 3rd door and out....check em for leaks
