Hi all

My Punto 60 S Reg is playing up!!

Checked my coolant was just above min so topped up. 3 days later was back to min. Decided to check daily shock horror next day was about 5cms below min. No leaks anywhere, topped up checked next day all seemed fine. But now have noticed puddle which I think was water below head gasket area.

No mayo substance oil is fine, hasn't overheated. Mate at work not a mechanic had a look had the car runing parked up, he asked me if my car was deisel its not but kept making a sound like one every couple minutes. Is this normal havent noticed it before or when driving.

Love this car but its seems to be one thing after the other.

Any help appreciated

thanks
Sarah

start car and get it to running temp then look for the more obvious leaks first-
radiator?
hoses?
water pump?
no sign from these then ,,you say your not getting any overheating?? , with this model you will not get a lot of the more obvious signs some cars get with a head gasket failure,,once car has got to running temp look at rear of car ,,are you getting what appears to be steam from exhaust
now start to suspect head gasket

Thanks for the reply,

Just gone to check it been parked up since yesterday, now there is no puddle and water has stayed the same at max:confused:

Left it running for 10 mins no smoke.

I have had it since july last year and its due a service going to book it in for end of next week. On a service would the mechanic spot head gasket failure or should I ask him to look at it.

Do you think as everything appears to have settled down I can drive it only doing short runs 4 miles to work and back but finish at till 11pm.

Next day off is Friday going to see if mechanic can do it then.

Cheers

Sarah

sounds as if you had simply allowed the collant to get too low ---when you filled it up the first time you maybe had air somewhere in the sytem and after running it the air disappated and you had to fill it a second time inorder to fill it--- just keep a close eye on it and remember not to open the filler( expansion) bottle when hot

I had this problem, thought it was the water pump so i went out and spend ££5on a new pump, turned out to be the water pump seal instead. fill her up and let her run and see if you can sopt any water comin out aywhere. best way to start lookin for a fault in terms of leakage, peferable hold your foot down a bi so the engine gets hot enough to engage the rad fan then you know water is running through the whole system.

if its not leaking then as as was mentioned before try bleeding it....

Thanks all

Been to see mechanic today he's going to do a service for me on friday and have a look, its still not losing anymore coolant he also thought maybe an air lock. He said he knows punto are prone to head gasket problems and will check it all out friday.

Thanks will let you all know if he finds anything

Cheers
