you'll have to bear with me i'm not great on this subject
bought an alarm a while back for my mk2 sporting, just haven't got round to fitting it or parting with money to get it fitted,

i've decided i'll give it a go and fit it myself, from this wiring diagram, does it seem straightforward enough for me to do,

all i need atm is a spare key to put in the transponder bypass,
and when wiring do you just attach the wires to wires that are already present in the car and what's the best way of doing this

cheers for any help :)

Hi mate,

Yep your going the right way about it. Obv you immobilizer will be permanently deactivated.
And the wiring, yes, it just connects into the existing wiring. However, i don't recommend using connector blocks, its much better to actually solder the new wires onto the existing wires. this prevents them from possibly working loose over time and a better connection.

I normally find the correct wire, strip a cm piece of insulation from the wire, wrap the new wire around it tightly, and then solder it into place. Then use some heat shrink tubing to tidy it all up and re-insulate it. Do that to each wire and your done.

Hope that helps mate,
Alan

thanks a bunch that's a great help, made me a lot happier now i know for definite where i put the wires and how to get them on, another thing in the wiring diagram it says the indicator wires are brown when i've read they're a different colour to the car ones, do i still attach them even though they're different colours?

in regards to this pic, can i find the 'second ignition' wire coming from the key cylinder or is it just a case of finding the same colour wire and what's the power wire?

and another thing, if i want to install the car alarm and the transponder bypass but haven't gotten a spare key yet to place in the transponder bypass will the alarm still function, i know the remote start won't but if i don't choose to use it until i get a new key will the other functions of the alarm work?

thanks for your help (y)

Hi mate,

Wire colours will vary from car to car (ie fiat/BMW) In the MK2 punto, the indicator wires are Pink, and pink and White. You can join say the brown wires of the alarm, to the pink wires of the cars indicator wires if the brown wires are meant for indicator output if that makes sense.

The alarm will still function if you dont disable the immobiliser, the engine will turn over when you press the remote start button, but it just wont fire up.

This might be of some help to you GUIDE HERE.

Hope that helps,
Alan

brilliant, just what i wanted to know and yeah it makes sense, and that guide does help, so all the wires i'll need to connect to are basically behind the cubbyhole in the fusebox?

never know might even get it done this weekend

Hi mate, not a problem

Yep all the connections should be behind the cubbyhole(obv you will need to run some wires into the engine bay for the siren, but thats dead easy) You want diagram 2 in that pic above, as it has a negative trigger system (if you are using your cars original c/l system)

Alan

alrite i lied, more questions, can i wire the handbrake wire on the alarm to the wire that causes the light on the dash to come on and the footbrake wires to the brake light wires for the anti-hijack system, and do i need to wire up the white ACC wire to anything considering i don't think i have anything like a window closure system to wire it up to, and how do i wire up the alarm to the central locking,

i think that's all i need to know :p, got there in the end

Hi mate,

Yes and Yes for the first two about the breaks (if you dont want to use the anti hijack system then just leave them disconnected). You wont need the ACC wire unless like you say you have a full closure window system, or a solenoid to pop the boot or so on!

To wire it up to the central locking:

In the fusebox next to your right knee, at the bottom (under the fuses) you will see you OBD port. To the left of that is a multi plug with lots of coloured wires in it. Unwrap the protective black tape that covers all the wires, and look for a white and green wire, and a purple and blue wire. The first is the cars LOCK wire and the last is the UNLOCK wire. Then, all you do is find the wire on your alarm system that is the "negative lock" wire and attach it to white and green wire in the way i said above. The find the wire on your alarm system which is the "negative unlock" and attach this to the purple and blue wire. That is all you need to do to integrate it into your existing C/L system so that when you press the arm/lock button, it will lock the doors, and when you press the disarm/unlock button it will unlock the doors.

Good luck
Alan

im finding more stuff i need to know , what colour are the brake & handbrake wires and if i stick the mainframe down with the fusebox the antenna will be hidden, should the remote fob still work alright even without the antenna exposed

hiya man,
you will need the ACC wire mate, thats what deactivates the alarm when your driving the car, IE, you shouldnt be able to arm the car with the keys in.,
have a look at this link, theres loads of other fiats listed at the bottom.,
