I wish to replace brakes on my Punto 55SX with something more substantial. I'm considering replacing the rear drums with Uno Turbo discs and calipers, and getting some 4 piston calipers in front (because I plan to install a 1.4l turbocharged engine in the far future, once I get the engine.. and the money... and time... sigh.)
When looking for discs and calipers, what should I keep in mind? Fiat uses 4X98mm distance for bolting the wheel on - that's one thing to keep in mind. I now have 14" alloys, but I'm keeping my old 13" steels for winter - I would be more than happy to find something that would fit into those, that would call for 240mm discs. Is there an easily available (as in - having been istalled in some car that was sold by heaps and crashed about coupiously) 4 piston caliper for a 240mm ventilated disc? Any aftermarket models? I'm looking for the cheapest reliable solution. Also, about the brake distribution - does Punto have some system of distributing braking power, in regard to the load (more people/stuff in the back, more braking on the rear axle)? Has anyone installed a manual distribution valve?
