Hi Guys,

Just had a Power Steering Failure on my Punto MKii. (n)

All connections/fuses appear ok. (y)

Diagnostic check at local garage showed
“Power Steering Motor (1) MEM”
“Electric Motor MEM”
Both of which were reset and cleared.

Only actual fault was “Engine Phase ACT” which the mechanics have been unable to clear.

Garage is 90% sure it’s the PAS motor, but I wanted to see if anyone knows what the “Engine Phase” message actually means before I go ahead and buy the parts? I’m also wondering if it’s more likely to be the torque sensors as the PAS occasionally kicks back in.

Also anyone know where I can get reconditioned parts on the net?

(Trying to avoid going down the fiat route as I simply can’t afford it.)

Cheers guys - wicked forum - has saved a complete novice a lot of time and money so far!

Arrrgh no way - can nobody help with this?

Just wanna know what "engine phase" means in relation to power steering failure?

Also any idea where i can get cheaper/reconditioned steering parts on the net? I've had a look on google but no luck.

there is a company called 'bb reman' on the net i think m8y. search on google for it. they do re-conditioned units on an exchange basis. not mega expensive either...
As for the motor, u cant buy them from fiat i dont think....ebays ur best bet or a scappy!

Cheers mate, had a look on BBA Reman but they only do the whole unit which is more expensive than buying the motor itself.

Had a quick look on e-bay but didn't look very reliable and i hear u have to be very careful buying reconditioned steering due to the amount of faulty units about!

Guess i'll have to keep looking to something crops up, unless anyone can recommend any other companies?
