hello, im new to this forum and i wonder if anyone can help. i have just refilled the windscreen wash in my 55sx, and i'm only getting a little trickle of water, do i need a new pump? also its hard to get the car into 1st gear at very slow speed, i'm virtually at a standstill before it will go into 1st, has anyone got any ideas? thanks.

Hello mate and welcome to the forum!!

With reguards to the windscreen washers, try disconnecting the washer heads under the bonnet and see if you get good flow out of the pipes. If not, then trace them back to the motor to make sure there is not a hole somewhere that is causing a leak. If that still proves fruitless, then remove the washer pump and give it a good clean. While your there, also clean any gunk out of the bottom of the washer bottle, as this may be causing your problem. If all that fails, then new pump. They're very cheap and dead easy to fit.

With regards to the difficulty going into first gear, has it always been like this, or is it recent, as its by design that on most cars its very difficult to get into first until you are virtually stationary to stop people from whacking it into first at too high a speed. If not, then I would start by checking you have sufficient gearbox oil and when it was last changes, and also check the linkages/cables. Its also harder at this time of year to get a car into first due to the gearbox oil being colder and decreasing its viscosity.

Good luck, hope that helps,
Alan
