I bought my Punto about 4/5 weeks ago and noticed that the pipe is missing that connects the Exhaust Manifold to the Air Filter. I am wondering what pipe do I need, is there a specific name for it?

At the moment I am using a Red Bull can and its not quite ideal!

Thanks :)

I call it a "pre heat pipe". It provides hot air rather than cold air to carburettor. It is needed in cold climates.

Hi mate,

To be honest, unless you live somewhere very cold, i wouldn't wory too much. However, if you do want to replace it, places like halfords sell the pipe. Its simply heat proof flexible pipe. Its silver in colour and comes in different diameters, so measure the diameter of the connector and the get the nearest one to that. If you haven't got a halfords near you, any decent motor factors will sell it and places like MotorWorld.

Hope that helps,
Alan

I actually rather like the idea of the Red Bull can - cheap (free), lightweight, and about the right size. Top marks for improvisation! Maybe make some improvements to its fitting and call it a permanent job...

All it has to do is collect hot air, assuming that the flap in the air cleaner is moving correctly to blank off the cold air intake. The flap actuator often doesn't seem to be working 100% anyway, so the technicalities of the hot air duct aren't that important.

Thanks for your help everyone!

The Red Bull can is holding up strong :slayer: but I am going to buy the proper heat proof flexible pipe just to be proper.

Thanks again :)
