I acquired a Punto 1.2 (red, basic model, black bumpers etc.) which I think is 8 valve, but might be wrong.

I've done so much to it (46k) - head gasket, cam kit, water pump, tyres, clutch, front mcpherson strut, exhaust, brakes and CV joint. You'd think it would start treating me nicely. However, less than a fortnight after getting it back from the garage, it's giving me jip.

Got into it today and it was being a bit strange. It seemed to lack power and the engine light flashed. I stopped the car and waited. Started it again and drove, albeit, with it juddering a bit. The flashing engine light came on again so I pulled over and waited. I started it again as I was a very short distance from home but it ran smoother and this time the engine light didn't come on. I drove it around a bit and, generally, is running OK but does seem to judder or something (sorry, not an experience driver), especially around the time when I would change gear or at high speeds, e.g. 60 mph. I managed to make three short trips, e.g. to the supermarket etc. today with no problems other than what I mention but it was not longer juddering when I started it up etc.

We've had horrendous weather with torrential downpours and hail yesterday. We live on a steep hill so am wondering if water/hail running off the roof into the car could have caused problems.

I don't think I can face another expensive bill. I've spent nearly 2 grand on the damn thing and it causes more arguements between me and husband than anything. :bang: At the same time, I don't want to get rid of it after investing so much time and effort.

I'd really appreciate any advice. Many thanks.

Um, about February. I guess it's done about 8-9k since then. Should I be feeling

I meant to say my blowers are coming on warm etc., not like when my gasket went.

Is it serious? How is a misfire corrected? Do I need new leads or something more drastic?

Sorry for 101 questions. I do appreciate your help.

just make sure HT leads are tight on spark plugs as thats probably the fault.I assume genuine fiat plugs are fitted & not aftermarket ones?

Driving it will risk destroying your cat...thats why light flashes its a warning!

Thanks so much for the advice.

I don't know, I am afraid. But I will try to take it to the garage tomorrow to get it looked at - another garage! It's about 2 minutes drive from the house.

The warning light has not come on since, even when starting, but I take it that it should not be ignored.

Many thanks for your advice.

Will defintiely get them checked tomorrow.
