The gearbox on my late Mk.1 ,1.2 ,8 valve SX 60, T reg appears to be slightly different to earlier models I've owned.

There's the big hex filler / level plug at the front of the box but I can't see a drain plug. Is it a case of removing a particular bolt or does the oil have to be sucked out ?

Thanks guys.

Hello and welcome to the forum

there is a 10mm hex at the lowest point of the box facing backwards and slightly downwards

if you cant see it someone may have replaced it with a bolt or something posibly because of damaging it or losing it

remember to undo your filler before undoing the drain

because if you can't undo the filler afterwards you then cant drive the car as you will have just drained all your gear oil useful tip

be careful doing these back up again no more than 40nm as they are into alloy so crack the casing easily

if your changing your oil what are you ptuuing it it

recommended is selenia ZC75 synthetic

available at www.shop4parts.co.uk

you box holds about 1.7 litres iirc

Hi, thanks for the advice and the welcome. I'll have another look tomorrow.
I have some 75 / 90 Semi Synthetic GL5 waiting to go in , is this ok ?

Hoping this might help a slight gearbox whine in all gears, annoying but not serious enough to spent time or money on. I guess gear oil additives are not recommended.

if i were you i would source the correct oil as i have mentioned

it's amazing how a slight change in oil can alter the gearbox behaviour for the worse

the oil you have is a bad idea imo

if there is a slight wine in all gears it's easy enough to strip the box and replace all bearings before it gets worse you could end up needing a new one if you don't get it done soon also have the seals changed on input shaft and drive shaft seals also

should be in region of 200 for a pro job rebuilding the box

a dealer should be able to do it for a reasonable price

after all it's the easiest box i know to strip and build nothing is simpler
