I have a 2002 1.2 Punto, the wiper motor of which has recently started acting up. When the car is turned on, it takes a few minutes before the wipers start to work. At various times, this can also affect the washer pump and/or the heater.

This is a recent development and has never happened before. Thus far, it has either sorted itself out after a few minutes or worked after I knocked off the car and started it up again, but I'd like to nip it in the bud, cos it's fairly annoying.

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

do you have any problems starting the car? it seems a bit of a wierd one, just wondered if theres a drain on power at start up , maybe start with simple things like main earth connections and connectors, at this time of year (cold and damp) these things seem to pop up

I have a weird prob too, when i put wipers on the first notch down it judders, but if i put on a faster setting its fine, once "warmed" up on slower setting its fine. its embarressing as well as annoying! ...

i think i have a dodgy earth as my bulb replacement light keeps coming on, i changed all bulbs! and yes with the correct wattage. on my drivers rear side, the light terminal the earth was correctly in and was loose, i tightend the terminal as all my lights would flash when indicating amougnst other things. most annoying!

my car is going in for a Diag test with fiat though i dont know what this will achieve?!?!

whelp it's an earth problem as heater wipers are on the same one

rgoddard mine did this so i twisted the drivers wiper anti clockwise looking from the end and it's fine now

it's also a sign of a worn wiper rack were the spinals come through they can wear and cause this but it only does it on intermittent as this is the only setting were the motor is stopping and starting so it promotes the judering to start

try rubbing your screen with news paper also with lots of black text this helps as the graphite lubricates the screen

The wiper judder is caused by:- grease too thick in wiper motor, worse in cold weather, was a fix a few years ago. Take off wiper motor cover to expose internals, clean all grease off and apply thinner grease, sorry cant remember recommended grease, similar to vaseline though, this will definately cure the wiper judder at slow speed!!

Hi there, where exactly is the earth wire on the rear? i seem to be having a similar problem. I have disconnected the rear wiper motor. what will you advise me to do. strange enough when my bulb indication light comes on the car comes to a complete stop. When i turn it back on, there no power and if shuts off again. This happened to me quite a couple of times on the main road. shall i change the wiper motor? is this the cause? I cant locatwe the earth wire. all help is highly appreciated.
thanks for reading this message and merry x-mas to all.(y)

There was a warranty item on the punto wipers. It was never a recall and it was kept pretty quiet although Fiat issued a warranty code to dealers . Punto , Brava and Stilo wiper motors were all affected apparently. Could be yours are showing the fault later in life. I would ask a knowledgeable well established dealer to take a look.

o yea i remember that

if you go to your dealer they should all have it or they can get it for you under a fiat part number i have some in my tool box

the motor contact are held together with torques bolts it's an easy job

unless you can get some wiring diagrams or are prepared to strip your car get a pro to ave a look

the earth point is on the driver side centre console quite high up under the dash portion of the plastic trim
