Hello there!

Got a new knock sensor for me mk2 punto (1.2 8v)
I was wondering if anyone could guide me to where it is located in the engine bay. I've looked to the left (when i'm facing the car) of the engine near where the airfilter arm exits and I've found a lead. I undid the screw and pulled out the lead and the part I pulled out can't be the knock sensor because the new one I bought recently looks nothing like it. So therefore, I am looking in the wrong place :(

The part I bought looks like this

Appreciate any help, cheers!!

It's on the back of the block underneath the inlet manifold, roughly level with the alternator.

They're a pig to get to and the connector can be really tight to release. I normally remove the sensor (13mm bolt) so you can get both hands on it, then disconnect the connector.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I've tried by best to look for it and I still can't find it! Sorry to be so annoying but is there any way of guiding me there? I can see the alternator, not sure I recognise the inlet manifold and I've looked at all the cables I can spot to see if it leads to what I'm after but nothing. Also, I should mention my car is on the drive and I can't stay out there for more than 2 minutes without running inside to the warmth lol - it's so god damn cold out there!!

Is there any other way of guiding me to it? Also, I don't have to access it from underneath the car do I? I took a look underneath but still couldn't see anything.

Thanks again, really appreciate it!

Please help me, I need use of the car tonight and I won't be able to unless I get this thing in there :(

I honestly can't spot it, if theres anyway to be more specific I'd really appreciate it. I ain't very good with parts of the engine bay so I haven't a clue where most things are.

Thank you :(

Hi, is that the starter motor? If so, is it on the driver or passenger side, in front end or back of engine bay?

I got it because my car sometimes cuts out while I'm driving, and won't start unless I leave it for about 10 minutes - after which the engine management light stays lit. I took it to a garage and the fault codes were read after it happened. The error list was wiped clean and I went about driving waiting for it to happen again, and was then taken back to the garage to be read again. Came to the conclusion it was the knock sensor.

if you look in the punto guides section there are a selection of great engine photos posted by littlepip pretty sure one of those will show you knock sensor position

I agree

Common symptoms with a dodgy crank (or RPM) sensor is, Engine cutting out whilst driving, and then having to wait until engine cools down again before it will restart, and then cuts out again when car reaches temp. etc etc and so on....

Cheers,
Alan

Although this is an old topic, I'm putting here a pic with the location of the knock sensor.
