Hey guys i got another question, what exactly is missfire? i remember a while back when i thought i had a gearbox problem i took it to these specialists.the guy took it out for a drive and when he got back he said the gears were fine but i have alot of missfire, what is it?

Cheers,

Hi mate

mis·fire· (mis fīr)
intransitive verb

to fail to ignite properly or at the right time: said of an internal-combustion engine

Basically its when one or more of you cylinders is not ignighting the fuel/air mixture inside it properly. There are lots of causes for it, ranging from a dodgy spark plug not creating a spark and igniting the fuel air/mixture, to little or no compression caused by worn piston rings etc. Often when a car is misfireing, it will sound like its missing a beat when running or is very jerky when accelerating.

Hope that helps
Alan

[SIZE=-1]The failure of the fuel charge in one or more engine cylinders to fire or ignite at the proper time.

yes i nicked that definition, it causes your car to judder and run like crap, my punto was misfiring a few weeks after i bought it due to a cracked ignition coil pack and crappy ht leads

Hmm intresting.the car judders quite a bit when changing gear and going back to accelerate, thought it was my dodgy clutch control but iv never done it in any other cars iv driven/drive,thing is the cars rather fast all though the weather seems to have a huge impact on the preformance,so if i took my car to a garage theyd be able to sort it?

Hi mate,

Sounds like a definate misfire to me! Could simply be a dodge spark plug, or could be something more expensive. Its best to get it sorted.

Cheers,
Alan

Cheers for the help guys thanks,il be taking it the garage when i eventually get enough cash to see if they can find the problem(y)hope it's just something small hehe

dodgy clutch control would just make the car jump a bit once or twice when lifting off the clutch and then pressing the gas, misfires are obvious and unnerving, and **** you off ;), a garage would sort it out no probs, if its a similar problem to what mine was, changing the ht leads, spark plugs and ignition coil pack isnt a big job and your car'll be running as normal :)
