Hi guys

I've just bought a Punto HGT which is lovely but came with a flat battery. Having just replaced the dud battery I notice the side lights remain on all the time, even when locked and alarmed; hence the previously dead battery. What's wrong with it? Any help for a Fiat Newbie would be very greatly appreciated.

Hello and WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!

Sounds like you have your parking lights on. When you remove the key from the ignition, DO NOT PRESS the black button on the bottom of the ignition barrel. Try putting your key in the ignition, turning the key 1 position and then removing the key again.

Check that your ignition is in position 1 and not position 2. On some cars, the black button that i have circled is used to release the key, but on puntos, it is used to alow the ignition to be turned to position 2 and activate the parking lights.

Hope this helps,
Alan

Thanks for the reply, I displayed surprising 'Muppetry' to not notice this simple safety feature. I look forward to similar insights into future problems from the forum, hopefully with as cheap an outcome.

You're certainly not the first. Once I was selling a Tipo and for one reason or another, I wasn't here, so a friend (who had recommended the car) met the buyer at my place and they went for a test drive. That was fine, so when I got home a couple of days later, the buyer came around to collect the car. Imagine the embarrassment when I found it had a flat battery. Imagine my smugness as I pointed out to the Toyota-driver that she had pressed the button to remove the key... ;)
