hi everyone.

i have got a w reg 2000 1.2 16v automatic punto. i know probably not the best option but it came at a really good price. lol. anyway il get to the point i really want to get some more hp. and i was wondering if there are any quick or as low cost ways as possible that i could add some hp. (y)

add some pedals , get a bunch of freinds in the car and get them to work :)

With the induction kit, make sure you get one that sits away from the engine (ie not like the K&n57i as the aim is to suck in as much cold air as possible. If it sits too close to the engine you will suck in in warm air which ultimately could lead to you loosing HP.

cheers,
Alan

cheers for the advice. will get an induction kit this weekend and i will see how it gets on.

in the tech section there is a rr graph that shows the gsr results when we tested one on my speedgear. but as the speedgear has an oil cooler and extra servo pipe the one on sale is not a straight fit, i will be getting one soon and we will re work it a little to make it fit, then you will be able to buy one that fits a speedgear straight out the box

it'll still fit (the manual g'box one) but will just need some rejiggin.

although, don't exect to be doubling your power without spending some proper money.the little fire engines are quite tunable, but it comes at a price (bought £1500) to reach around 115bhp.

a much better way to make lots of power is to buy a volvo turbo estate£200 , 2.3 turbo 8v, 180bhp as std, and the means to make more like 250hp for around £200:worship:

I'm inclined to agree except that I bought Italian; my 164 at less than £300 is a cheap way to get 200bhp with 3L V6 torque to match, and the styling beats the Volvo any day in my eyes :)

Seriously, you can spent a lot on "getting a pint out of a quart pot" (as the Americans say). I think the remap sounds promising in £s-per-bhp, but I don't think I'd go to the effort of porting the cylinder head etc. on what is quite a modern 1.2L engine.

I had a look in the Technical section - does anyone have any dyno figures for induction/exhaust fitted alone? I wonder if they give more value if the camshafts are changed as well?

Realistically, and to quote an American tuner (cant remember the name) "there aint no substitute for Cubic Centimeters"! Personally I would buy a bigger engined car and work on that, tuning a 1.2 can be fun, but reliability can take a dive. But if money is limited I guess thats not a realistic option, but proper tuning aint cheap!

You have to have a plan, a big picture of where you want to get in terms of reliable Bhp, brething being the best start point, including exhaust, then fuelling to take advantage of the improved breathing, then the trick features of porting, valve lift and timing.

Dont forget the brakes and suspenders!

on punto 60sx, RR showed 70.1hp and 89 lb/ft with GSR induction kit, custom freeflow exhaust, and mkritch chip.

hope this helps.

as others have said, you could spend a fortune getting it to go fast.

the most worthwhile mods, IMO, are the Mkritch chip, GSR induction kit, and then maybe a 40mm TB. the chip alone makes some difference, to the overall drivability.

The Yanks never could built proper engines because of that. Mwrk Webber coming over to F1 from American racing was impressed of how much punchier the much smaller F1 engine are than the American muscle power cars.

BTW the current Panda competition car has got out of 1368 8v 157bhp with fulfilling emission control regulations. The Seicento kit car (road worthy and road legal) had also 157bhp out of the bored out (to 1146) 1108cc FIRE engine for the group A1. The Cinquecento group N car had an 1108 with 120bhp.

James Mk2 1242 16v we finished at 119bhp.

hiya
i keep thinking about getting my punto 1.2 16v sporting remapped, but im always thinking what if. does anyone have a sporting remapped? is there much differance in the drive? how about just straight line speed? or reliability? i would appreciate if any could let me know.:)

cheers

the sporting is prob worth a remap, its a more modern engine/head/ignition ecu system, yet it loose 6bhp on the mk1 of similar engine. reckon theres something more worth getting out of it, but need a gsr first, to make the several hundred pound remap worth it really.

although if you want to go fast on the cheap, my unoturbo is possibly for sale :chin:
