hi guys

when i go to start my punto somtimes i just get a real loud screeching sound but then il turn the immobiliser on and off and it will turn on fine. my farther in law says it may be the starter motor sticking or the alternator could be on its way out. any help or suggestions would be much apreciated

Sounds like the starter motor isnt ingageing properly. Could be the solenoid sitcking.

yeh, 99% sure.

you bont mention what year/engine it is, but in most cases its at the back of the engine bay mounted by 2 or 3 bolts. for the top one, you need to remove the filter box. the bottom one(s) can easily be reached under the car. The solenoid on the starter may just need cleaning and greasing.

its a 1.2 2000 elx automatic. thanx for the advice does anyone know a rough cost to getting this fixed.

if it just needs cleaning, half hours job, no new parts - just grease. so id expect £30 is more than enough for a garage to do it.

cheers for the help will try cleaning it myself or book it into a garage. no doubt ill be back with more problems.
