Ive flung the passenger door open too wide and i think ive broken the check strap as its making a loud snapping sound when opening and closing. Where can i pick a new one up from apart from fiat? also i hear its easy to change but not sure how to do it...

There should be a pin that you push through on the pillar that holds the door hinges, push that pin through it and there will be 2 bolts on the door side of the check strap which you will also need to remove. The check strap is located inside the door so you will also need to remove your door card. Hope this helps.

Ah, the famous FIAT snapping noise...
I'm not directly familiar with the Punto (yet) but I'm almost willing to bet that the broken part is not the strap but the bracket that is spot-welded to the door pillar. The design is common to most of the 90's-onwards models like the Tipo, the Punto, the Stilo, etc.

Watch carefully as you wiggle the door and see if the piece that the pin goes through is moving in the pillar. If so, then you're going to need someone to weld it firmly into place, which will then necessitate a paint touch-up.

I don't think you broke this by opening the door too wide - it comes under most strain when closing the door and the spot welds then give way.
