General losing water from ?

Hi all
I a new to this and this question may have been asked , I have a 2001 punto 1.2 8v that is losing water . I cant find the leak anywhere it loses about a pint a day , if its being used , but nothing if its standing still . I did have a problem with the thermostat but that has been changed and seams fine . checking through the site from what I can see it may be the head gasket , a local garage has also told me it could be this , what I wanted to know is if any one else has had the same problems and if so how did you get it fixed .
Or is there any way of checking with out taking the head off to see what is wrong. If not how easy is it to take the head off and refit.

Could well be the head gasket. Get your garage to do a "sniff test" to see if there are exhaust gasses in the coolent. If there are, then its your head gasket. This seems like the most likely suspect to me i'm affraid, especially as you've had problems with your thermostat in the past.
