General MK2 Fog Lights

General MK2 Fog Lights

:yeahthat:
i asked for pic of these bumpers in other thread as neither 3 door or 5 door abarth bumper have fog holes, i worried about what you have bought now:confused:

my mates active sport has small fogs in the bottom of the bumper

so I assume sporting do aswell

but if fitted with the switch panel also from a model that does have them these will not work as the body computer does not know the car has them neither will the ones built into the light units as seen on mk2 pre face lift

so you would need separate wiring and switch

They are Abarth and i think the holes are not intended for Fog Lights but i want to put some in there any way lol

Is there enough room to fit them?

That may be incorrect , My car had no fogs originally(mk 2 pre face lift), I installed the switches and lights from one in a breakers and they work perfect.

are you sure

we had a customer asking us to fit fogs to his car a wile back so we tried it and it did not work

basically the switch earths a pin to the body computer telling it to power the fog light wires and monitor current draw as you are probably well aware

but if this pin on a car without factory fog lights became earthed for what ever reason how ether unlikelly

firstly the wires in the mud and dirt at the front of the bumper would be powered for no good reason not to clever idea

and secondly it would trigger the dash to illuminate the light to tell you your non existent fog lights are on and both the bulbs are blown also

not useful at all

so for this reason the body computer's programed for non fog light cars ignore this wire

the same goes for some of the air con wires controlling fan speed's through the engine ecu they don't do anything even thou the compressor and pressure regulator and sensor wires are present

maybe fiat realised this problem on later models and made this amendment in various ecu's

Of course im sure as i carried out the work myself, mine is a late 53 reg mk 2 active(not sport) so i imagine it was one of the last ones made before the facelift.

I only decided to do the modification after fitting a HGT console and fitted the silver switches that came with it and to my surprise if i switched the front fog light switch on the light lit up in the dash. A quick bit of investigating with a multi meter at the headlight plug and i found the live feed. Then it was a simple job of just putting in the correct lights.
