pretty sure that if you are thinking the engine block itself is warped then you,d had better start looking to replace whole engine, never heard of having top of engine block skimmed
the head and block in a punto are made of two different metals and because of this when any great overheating takes place its always the head that takes the brunt of it ,so from reading the other posts dont think your problem lies here, i know its not what you want to hear but I would be looking at the head gasket itself ,from what you wrote ,something there doesnt sound quite right
best of luck

lol tbh, thats what id rather hear over warped block :) im going to remove the head tomorrow and see if theres any signs on the new gasket of where the leak(s) are. if not, see what the engine recon guys think about the block. if that fails, then ill be moaning on here again :p

i thought about pressure testing the head and reseating the valves, but i cant see that would be the problem. deffo seems like something in the gasket area. maybe its just not seated properly. i might try loosening and retightening the head bolts.

no you want the rocker gasket without the little ear's sticking out of it as the cam cover has a different shape around the sharp corner were it turns to go over the camshaft cap i will have to make a guide about this

as for your breather i would expect air to be humming out of this a bit if you mean it's making a noise when it's disconnected from the air box then it's normal

and the exhaust is probably full of all sorts of crap from the bad running the car has gone through it needs a good thrash to clear it out

same for the cat it will make noises as it cools it has been well a both say 500 degrees c ish

if you separate the exhaust on any car crap will come out with a little water also it's normal why would anyone do this anyway

as for bad running starting this is normal aswell after all you just changed the head gasket it need's to learn the new engine characteristics

if you haven't taken the head off again just drive it and see if things get better

(y) ill get it sorted

there was quite a lot coming out seeping through the gasket, so i seperated to see if it was coming from the engine/cat side, or just coolant that was still sat in the exhaust. it was definatly coming down from the cat tho.
the humming noise was weird tho. id literally run the car 10 to 15sec before noticing water out the gasket, so the car wasnt even warm... the noise was like blowing over the top of a big empty wine bottle, but much much louder.

i havent touched it since. spent my day off work servicing the other car, so ill give it a go :)

i might try take a video 2moro and upload it, see what you think (y) im just really worried about screwing it up more than it already is

I've lost track. It sounds like you're almost there. Don't worry about the haunted cat'.. There's no movong parts in there, so whatever the noise is, it's nothing you can fix.

The fluid is going to be condensation mixed with soot. I'd see if it disappears after you gave the car a good run.

i think its nearly there too, its just fustrating at the mo. i left it a week because it was annoying me and tackled it again today... took a vid of the symptoms to see what you guys think...

for those that have lost track ;) (it has been going on much longer than id hoped this little repair project.),...

i bought it knowing there were a few faults - all sorted apart from one... as soon as you started it, it revved itself to 5000rpm and screamed like crazy - throttle body replaced (inc all inlet manifold seals) and alternator belt tightened. Ran fine but coolant was blasting out the filler cap. new thermostat and new filler cap, cooling system flush, still had the problem. found loads of coolant sat in the exhaust system so head was skimmed, new headgasket, new head bolts. also while everything was apart and easy to get to, new timing belt + tensioner, new exhaust manifold and flexpipe gaskets, new sparkplugs, new oil sump, new oil and airfilters, new rocker cover seal.

filled with new coolant, new oil and started... this brings us up to now... drips of liquid from the flex joint connection and loud humming from the cat once the cars stopped.

this is my first headgasket replacement so be nice  are any of these symptoms out of the ordinary after a new HG? it occured to me after uploading the video that i havent checked the oil since starting the engine after the oil change, so it may have just gone too low as it filled the oil galleries etc, and just needs topping up.
