HI All,

I have a mk2 2001 punto. At the moment the temperature light lights up on the dash after about 20mins of driving. I've changed the coolant thinking it was a small problem, but to little avail. This morning, on my way to uni it happened again like, its an absolute nightmare! Can anyone point me in the right direction, and preferably a direction that doesn't consider the water pump, or something else that could be costly, lol.

Cheers :bang:

I seeee, well thats good news. Hopefully thats it. I'll take a look when I get a second. So I'm best off replacing the thermostat right? Bout £40 is it?

Cheers (y)

And if it helps, I noticed this morning, a large pool of something lying on the garage floor where the car had stood last night, it was somewhere between oil and water as far as viscosity go's? I think this could possibly be the problem. any ideas? It seems to be drippin from somewhere behind the oil filter??

Any help would be immense
cheers

Thats what i would go for first, as its cheep, and would give the results your getting when its knackered.
With reguards to the stuff on your driveway, what color is it? I wouldnt have thought it was coolent, as that should be just the consistncy of water. May well be geerbox oil. Wont be PAS oil as you hae a Mk2 with electronic PAS.

Cheers,
Alan

Excellent. Nope, Its not gearbox oil a dont think, its leaking from the wrong side of the engine bay. I think its coolant, smells like it too, but its clear though?? Could the water pump be on its way out? Leaking fluid and therefore resulting in the temperature light coming on? Where is the pump situated?

Thanks in anticipation! Am getting there, lol.

That is another posibility, and if its definately coolent that is leaking, the it sounds more likely than the thermostat. The waterpump is situated on the left hand side of the engine as you look at it, its in amongst the cambelt. A dodgey waterpump would also cause similar results to those your having.
The coolent could apear clear if its spread thinly on the floor.
Cheers,
Alan

Stupid question maybe? But have you checked there is no 'air lock' in the system? Are your pipes connected okay?
