Technical headlight bulbs

Hi

I would like to change my headlights from the standard yellow/orangey light to bright (legal) white lights any suggestions on what bulbs to get?

I have an MK2 Punto

any good brand really like bosch or philips

have a look on ebay

don't be tempted buy 100wH4s stick to 55/60 or you will melt your bulb holders and the wiring

personally I'd either upgrade to a HID kit or just get standard bulbs.

I had some Phillip GT150's and didn't see much difference. Others may argue and say they are better, but for around £50 you can pick a HID set off eBay which will be far superior.

Can someone explain a HID Kit? is it just simply a change of bulbs or a conversion kit that requires wiring? if so any guides or help with this?

Thanks:)

it's a conversion kit with independent wiring from the battery controlled by relays triggered by the original wiring it involves a small box producing around 8000kv to run them as it is a controlled ark of electricity through a mix of various noble gases

some of the cheaper kits involves a load of butchery and you end up with water in your lamps
and they are ridiculously expensive generality

i have seen some kits that are small enough to fit were the original bulb goes but they are mega buks normally about £100 a lamp

i'm sure some high quality xenon bulbs would give you what your looking for white light and draw allot less attention from the police

also a hell of a lot cheaper

I have HID's in my mk2 and its one of my best mods! If you have H7 bulbs for you dipped lights, then this will do:

I got mine from Hong Kong, and have had no problems. There are some 'Bosch' ones on eBay too, but they're apparantly fakes, and seem identical to mine.

Not had a single problem with them. Really easy to fit. There's even a guide on here:

All you need to do is drill a hole in the plastic back cover of the headlight so the cables can go through. Then mount the ballast (the little box which changes the voltage) somewhere. I have the 6000k kit which gives a cleaner white light, uses less power than standard bulbs (35w so meant to put less strain on alternator), and is meant to last a LOT longer than standard bulbs.

I put off getting them for ages because of the price, but went for them in the end after spending £30 on Phillips bulbs.
There's my argument for them, you choice now :)

Theres always the cheaper option of a trip down to halfords, who will sell you blue tinted bulbs (these have a very light blue tint and no yellow in use) or Super bright ones (these are brighter and do shine white in use) It wont be so much of a problem on a mark 2 but any car where the sides stay on while the headlamps are on its worth changing the sidelamp bulbs for blue tinted ones while your on, if you don't the yellow light from them can ruin any effect you achieve.

hey,
all that is required is simply swapping the bulbs over. this process takes less then 2 minutes. the sidelight type is 501. i brought mine from ebay, it cos £4 and you can select which one you want, white, blue, ice white. trust me its worth the price for the the result you get at the end of the day!
