hi, im quite suprised at the amount of petrol my car uses its only a punto 1.2 8v but i seem to constantly be filling it up, so is it the way i drive or are the known for this??

Whens the last time its had a serivce, also tyres not at there right pressure will eat the petrol, apart from that you could try resetting your ecu so it relearns itself and you might end up with better mpg than before. :)

I put £10 in my sporting when the reserve light came on, all the miles I did between then and it coming back on were on country lanes with lots of gear changes. It went 108 miles, truly astounding compared to the 18mpg I was used to before!

well i reckon im filling up between 2 times per week but the needle seems to go down so quick! it sais on the little trip counter thing, 35 mpg roughly on averange, changed the airfilter the other day, had brand new tyres only couple months back.

Mine is shocking, on my 1.1i SX 1995 Punto i get about 60 miles out of a tenner or if i push the needle to the very last drop might sneak 70-80 but i rarely do that. I normally put in 20quid as thats all i can afford at the moment and get about 150 miles out of it so at 97p per litre thats about 21 litres(?).

I changed the Oil Filter, Oil, Air Filter, Spark Plugs and HT Leads myself about 3 months ago but its not had a proper garage service in about 18Months to 2 years i think. (going off the service history).

Also the tyres were set to 32 PSI about 2 months ago, i filled them up with air yesterday and they were about 25-27 PSI EXCEPT for the front drivers wheel which was 17 PSI. Hows it got to that?

Could it because its not had a proper service thats its shocking on Petrol?

Thanks

Matt

My 8v gets me according to the computer 46.1mpg, this is what i normally average

last week i was a bit skint so i thought i would see how economical i could drive and overall i got 52.1mpg according to the computer but i calculated 420 miles from £34 of fuel at 97p/litre which is bloody good i think, my mums tdci only gets 480 from £40! and thats supposed to be really economical

EDIT: which according to my calculation just now equals 54.4 mpg

while on the subject of servicing do u really need to take it to have proper garage service or can u do it yourself like oil filter plugs oil air filter im just curious because mine was due for service at 40,000 so i jus done it myself all the above named things, any1 no ??

yup, can do most things yourself...

oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs, leads, clean sump plug, oil flush, coolant, check brake fluid. and a few other things are well within a complete beginners grasp.

means that instead of paying a garage to put tatt into your car, you can instead of spending moneyon someone elses labour, put quality oil in your car. e.g selenia 20k, which is about as good as it gets for your fiat.

rubbish MPG could mean a sensor has burn't out/getting bad. I know with mk1 puntos they can often loose their settings for fuelling within the ECU, and can get appualing economy (20-24mpg MAX when driivng like a granny  ) its down to the ecu forgetting the map I think. take it out for a proper drive and put it thru the entire rev range in 3rd/4th, should be alright after that.

just running em round town = poor milage anyway, but makes the ecu run them rich.
