Question How to remove MK2 Gearbox? (and probably replace it)

Hello again, i need your help guys! My gearbox is messed up, my local rebuilder says (according to my discription of the problem) that the diff?!?! is gone/damaged??? i dont quite kno what a 'diff' is but anyway. My local said i need a new gearbox straight up. The rebuilder said he will recondition it meaning he will take the gearbox apart and replace ALL parts with NEW parts and also issue me with a 12 month warranty which costs 280, or pay 90 for him to check it and he will only replace nessery parts which then i have to pay extra for, and this he will issue a 3 month warranty.

Oh yeh plus a charge of 180 to remove and replace the gearbox from my car.

This is a bit steep so i thought maybe if i can remove if not remove AND refit the gearbox myself, so just paying the 280 for the reconditioning, saving 180!

Can someone please advise me on how i can do this and how the difficulty level. (I havent done any work to my car myself, complete novice).

Thank you all!!

may as well let them do it all and put new clutch in whilst its off, the recon price is very good
