Hi,
my wife has just acquired an 04 Punto Dualogic - very nice. Its our first time with an auto box. Not really tried it in 'manual' yet.

However, in auto when gently touching the clutch to move off the car shudders as if it's going to stall (just like in a manual car if you're noti n the right gear for the speed). Is this normal or is there something wrong with the auto 'gearbox' ? When giving it a few more revs when moving off the car doesn't shudder, but theres times eg when slwoing down to come into our drive (ie foot on brake but still wanting to go a 5ish mph) when obviously more revs isn't possible and it shudders. IS this normal ?

I did notice that when the guy who sold it to us drove it he did tend to over-rev it when pulling off.

Any advice/help greatefully recieved.

I looked at your long post but couldn't fathom out whether your dualogic problem was fixed - could you let me know ?

Nope, not fixed yet.

With a few more people reporting it recently, it would be a major breakthrough if someone can find a fix for it.

Luvduvs car is different from yours weakenderman,i'd take it to garage & get it checked, these cars often suffer from gear selection switches not so much a fault but need to be set correctly.

Thanks.

Do FIAT (Italy) acknowledge that it's a problem ?

We've been for more a drive today - it's ok pulling away from standstill if you give it some revs. But parking (both forward and reverse) is a prblem when trying to gently nudge forward.

Luvducs - what model is yours with the dualogic ?

Ours is a 04 Punto 'Active' 1.2 (1243cc) 8v (I think).

Moderator - when you say 'gear slection switches' - what are these exactly ? Is it simply a case of it being re-set or are parts required ?

Thanks
Steve

if you take it back to your dealer they can do a clutch relearn procedure with the fiat examiner after this it will set off perfectly

Thanks everyone.

Just got back from the FIAT dealer. They put on the examiner and couldn't find any fault.

What he did say that it needed a new clutch and flywheel as it was one of the cars that suffered from clutch failure (chassis number starting 188).

The thing is the 3 warrenty has just run out(aug 10th 07), but the cars only done 9k miles.

Anyone know if I'd be able to claim a a repair as the car has done so little miles ?

Thanks

Is a clutch relearn the same as a gearbox recalibration - its not is it?

no a clutch relearn is a procedure dealer's use when replacing the clutch

as you know it's simply a robotised manual gear box with a manual cluch operated buy the ecu

when the clutch is replaced the ecu need's to relearn were the clutch bite point is

but buy using this procedure on cars with poor take up problems (almost stalling or jerking as a learner driver would)

it seems to make them right again and it's no short term fix on cars I have done they have had no further problems since

i'm not sure if most dealers have figured out this trick so you may be in the awkward position of you telling them how to do there job

if so just try and convince them you have be told buy a fiat mechanic this does work

well you have after all
me!

I would expect they will charge there normal amount for the use of diagnostics equipment

or maybe a little more as they will have to drive the car with examiner connected to do it

I never get into that side of things really I just do the work so honestly I have no idea

but the work should take no longer than half an hour as a rough guideline to labour cost

Just re-read this post.....or should I say properly this time:eek: ....sounds as though he is right,i'd go for clutch.

Mine (manual) does same (especially reverse & pulling away when cold) but I just 'dip' the clutch for a second.

When/where did you get it?

"sounds as though he is right,i'd go for clutch."

Not sure what you meant - new clutch or re-learn ?

thanks
