Hey guys, I have made a few posts but nobody has answered some of my questions and im making this thread just to get em all out, please try and answer most of them so i dont need to make new threads all the time for each specific thing.

Here goes...o.k NO.1 First thing is i have 16 inch stillio alloys on my punto so i bought longer bolts just 4 peace of mind, got em from fiat and they said will work with my set-up but only two of the bolts tighten on the passenger side wheel (all other wheels are fine) and the other 2 tighten up but only 2 a certain extent until you tighten them realy hard then they get 2 a point and loosen again after another turn (if you know what i mean) duno y thins is(maybe the thread). The question is will it be o.k to drive with 2 tightened realy hard and the other 2 fully in but not fully tightened. i.e all the way in/tight but not fully tight.

NO.2 When i put my foot down i can hear a hissing noise cummin from the back of the car which i presume is a brocken silencer but i cant find any immediate holes.

NO.3 When i come to a slow stop i can hear a metal on metal sort of scrape cuming from the back of my car which im presuming are my brake shoes(not pads as iv just had the pads and discs done) oh and is it normal to have this orangy dotted resadue on the discs after leaving it over night?

NO.4 do you guys think this exhaust will be good on the punto as i cant afford the supersprint 1. If any1 is selling a second hand supersprint back box PM me (the dual outlet 1 for the mk2 punto 1.2 8v) but other wise, what you think of this one as an alternative?

1)Sounds like your threads are buggered, get them retapped.

2)Could be anything? A loose snake. Put a rag over the exhaust and see if you can spot/hear where the leak is that way. Also what car? If its a JTD you sure its not a whistle(from the turbo) [i'm guessing not as you mention an 1.2 8v exhaust].

3)Rust is normal on discs overnight when they get wet, dew etc. As long as its just wee spots. Sounds like you need new brake pads, discs, shoes, drums at the back.

4)It'll make negligible difference. Apart from be noisier, and possibly fall off, if not fitted properly.

Thanks for the reply, how do i get them retapped? Is it a big problem or can i just leave it, im not bothered as long as my wheel doesnt fall off.

Also with regards to the exhaust, will it be suitable for just a nicer sounding/looking 1 from the standard? Im not to botherd about perofrmance gains aslong as i dont lose any. How much u think it will cost 2 get it fitted? thanks again.

Get a decent garage to check and retap the threads and check the bolts, or an engineering place. I wouldnt suggest driving around on 2 bolts, if only 1 loosens your screwed.

I have no idea what the exhaust will sound like. And no idea how much to fit.

The hub holes need to be re-tapped. It's dangerous to drive with just 2 bolts. The others won't be doing anything if you can't tighten them up.

The threads will be recreated, using a stainless steel insert, or if they're too far gone they will be filled with weld and re-drilled and tapped. Failing that, a new hub will obviously sort it. It depends on the cost of parts and labour which is the cheapest option (for instance a new hub may be easier/cheaper than trying to fix the old one).

If you have an exhaust, it shouldn't take more than 1/2 hour to fit at an exhaust place or if someone has a ramp, so about £35.

1 more thing. I recently replaced my brake discs and pads at the front (got a 2000 mk2 1.2 8v) looked rele nice and shiny the first day, left them for about 3 days and when i came back they were covered in these orangy blobs everywhere (comes off but comes back 2). Is this normal or do i need to spray the discs with some protective stuff? thanks guys

Yeah they will, it's normal. It's rust. It never sleeps...

Anything you spray onto the disc will either just come off when used (Like the rust or damage the pads and reduce braking efficiency.

If your discs get water on them (if it rains and it splashes off the ground onto the disks, or if it runs off the wheel) then the disc will go spotty.

The discs are made from cast iron - that's a good material for durability and braking performance. Normally car discs are out of sight, so it doesn't matter too much. If you leave your car for a few days in the rain, then obviously it will be worse than if you drive it every day.. but the marks should clean up straight away when you drive it.

Absolutely DO NOT put anything on the discs! Apart from making the brakes completely useless, it will eventually get burnt/scraped off anyway... assuming you don't hit anything first!
