I've just tried to put my Punto JTD ELX through the M.O.T and it has been pulled up on the exhaust stating the following;

'Rear exhaust system has a major leak of exhaust gases.'

I've therefore been told i need a new exhaust and from his supplier been quoted a price of £340, £440 in total inc labour and re-test.

IS this price correct? I've just had a quick look on the internet and found the full exhaust system for £104.44 excl vat, link - http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/search_results.php?

I've just taken it down to Kwik Fit who've had it up on the ramp and showed me where it has a leak.

It seems my exhaust is the original Fiat one as from the cat back it is one section. They say they can get the rear section, cut my exhaust and fit that over the top. But this would still cost me £210?

Is this still a bit pricey? They're also saying that if this doesn't work then i'll need the cat section which they are quoting £270 for.

Any thoughts

Would it not be possible to just get the hole welded ??

If not, I have a rear section exhaust off a 1.2 sporting (mk1) if it would be any use to you ?

i just got an exhaust for my punto mk 1 online for around £105 il post back on later when i get all the details for you

try TMS, they do cheaper parts than a lot of motor factors.
that is, if you have TMS where you live, theres one handy where i live.

where's the leak as the back box joins in front of the rear beam, just after the straight section

i have just received the one from the website onlineautomotive and its top notch plus it was only something like 136 quid delivered cant really complain much at that to be honest...

The exhaust on the JTD is a bit pricey TBH. A genuine fiat rear silencer will set you back £150.00 from fiat, and cat back is £384.93 just for parts from fiat. So as suggested, go for parts from motor factors if possible. HOWEVER, it can be difficalt to get hold of a rear silencer for the JTD, and a lot of places will tell you that it is a fiat only part...
All depends on where the hole is as to which option is best....

makes my £200+ supersprint back box seem quite reasonable
